Des Moines police have released two other people detained after a fatal shooting at an outreach center in Des Moines on Monday. Walls is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder, and one count of his involvement in a criminal gang. Her two other people in police custody were released without charge. The shooting was reported at around 12:53 pm at Starts Right Here, a nonprofit focused on helping at-risk youth. Starts Right Here was created by activist and rapper his Will Keeps. The Outreach Center is located at 455 Southwest Fifth St. Starts Right Here is a partner of Des Moines Public Schools since 2021. At one time he serves 40-50 of her DMPS students. No DMPS staff were present at the time of the shooting. Police said three people were shot. Two male students were seriously injured and taken to hospital. they died afterwards. His third person, identified as Keeps, was taken to hospital in critical condition. Police have arrested 18-year-old Preston Walls of West Des Moines in connection with the shooting. Walls is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder, and one count of his involvement in a criminal gang. The other two people in police custody were released without charge.
