3 reasons why I ditched my Galaxy S23 Ultra for Galaxy Z Fold 6

I Galaxy S23 Ultra I’ve been using it since it came out and it’s served me well. It’s a great device with plenty of power and more camera features than I know what to do with. I was initially attracted to this year’s Galaxy S24 Ultra, but my personal use couldn’t justify the upgrade, so I felt it was best to wait on the sidelines and see if the Galaxy Z Fold 6 piqued my curiosity.

Over the last few years, I’ve been bouncing between the Galaxy Z Fold and the Galaxy S Ultra models. I’m not particularly tied to one series. I look at each model on its own merits, weigh them against my usage, and only buy the model that ticks all the boxes. This time, the latest foldable smartphone won out, and I’ve already pre-ordered the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Story continues after the video

Display brightness

The Galaxy S23 Ultra’s display was fantastic from the get-go and I enjoyed every minute of using it. I agree that the brightness has been significantly improved in its successor, but other than that nothing has changed and I felt like an upgrade wasn’t really necessary if you were going to stick with the same form factor.

My decision Pre-order the Galaxy Z Fold 6 7.6-inch internal display Peak brightness 2,600 nits Compared to the 1,750 nits in HDR mode on the Galaxy S23 Ultra, this is a substantial increase and makes a big difference when using the phone outdoors on a sunny day. More screen real estate is always a welcome change, too.

Faster On-Board Memory

At first glance, both the Galaxy S23 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Fold 6 appear to have similar onboard memory of the LPDDR5X type. Like most people, I bought the standard model of the Galaxy S23 Ultra with 8GB RAM. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 comes with 12GB RAM as standard, so this is a nice little upgrade, but it’s not the only one.

It also has a higher clock speed of 4800MHz compared to 4200MHz on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. While this may seem like a minor difference, a faster RAM clock speed means the memory can process more data per second, resulting in a noticeable performance boost. Because of the nature of my work, I tend to squeeze the most performance out of my main device, this upgrade is worth the upgrade cost for me.

Pattern color finish

Lastly, the biggest reason I decided to upgrade was not performance, but appearance. I think the Crafted Black color offered for the new foldable smartphone is very attractive. This is an online exclusive, Pre-order the Galaxy Z Fold 6 from Samsung.

This is quite different from any Samsung foldable smartphone ever made, and we think you will agree that the black on black combination gives the device a carbon fiber look and overall vibe. While the regular color options feel a bit boring, Crafted Black is anything but boring and is definitely worth opening your wallet for.

Finally, one of the main reasons why upgrading makes sense is the fact that Samsung is offering $800 as a trade-in value for the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Being able to trade in this phone for such a decent price after more than a year and a half of use is an attractive offer that you shouldn’t miss. Samsung is only offering this high trade-in value until pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 end, so we recommend you pre-order before July 24th to get the most bang for your buck.
