new Suicide Squad: Defeat the Justice League The latest season teased the next playable character, and cutscenes have sparked discussion about the direction the story will take.
Mrs. Freeze was added to Rocksteady’s controversial live service shooter last week as part of the launch of Season 2, and with it came a cutscene that has generated some buzz within the game’s small but loyal community.
Warning! Spoilers for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Season 2 follow:
new Cutscenes sees the Flash’s return after the Suicide Squad killed Brainiac and rescued him from captivity post-launch as part of Season 2. In the base game’s main storyline, the Suicide Squad killed the Flash along with other corrupted members of the Justice League in an attempt to save him from the destruction of Metropolis at the hands of Brainiac.
Some are calling the storyline a surprise, while others say the plot twist of the “good” Justice League members returning post-release was always expected. Either way, players are wondering the exact nature of Flash’s return, what it means for Brainiac’s master plan, and whether other characters thought to have been killed by the Suicide Squad, like Batman, Green Lantern, or Superman, might also return.
One of the most controversial storylines in the Suicide Squad base game Batman: Death by Fallen Arkham Trilogyis unceremoniously executed by Harley Quinn, a death that some criticized as not giving the character, voiced by the late Kevin Conroy, a fitting send-off.
But will Batman return with more voice acting from Kevin Conroy? The new cutscene suggests that during the main storyline, the Suicide Squad killed clones of the original Justice League members, with Brainiac taking the real ones hostage. However, another theory is that the Suicide Squad did in fact kill the original Justice League members, but Brainiac later resurrected them, with Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Harley Quinn and King Shark tasked with saving them.
In any case, a cutscene shows Flash seeing the Suicide Squad, wondering why they’re not in a prison, and collapsing. No further mention has been made of the character’s return.
Season 3 is expected to add Lawless as a playable character, and may introduce further revelations or even a real Justice League member. While the list of post-launch DLC characters has already been leaked through datamining, Rocksteady has teased the addition with a clear indication of who the next character will be in the Metropolis changes. For example, Season 1 teased the arrival of Mrs. Freeze in the Ruthless changes to Metropolis, but players have now noticed another change that suggests Lawless is on the way. After Lawless, Deathstroke is expected to round out the playable character list for Year 1.
