The Olympic men’s basketball competition is almost always won by the United States, which has won gold medals in seven of the eight Olympic Games since 2000. NBA The athletes were allowed to participate, and as expected, they begin Paris 2024 as heavy gold medal favourites again — but don’t expect it to be easy.
The 2024 Olympic field is arguably the strongest group of teams ever assembled at a single international tournament. Host France has won silver medals in the past two Olympics and is led by veteran Rudy Gobert and debutant Victor Wembanyama. Canada has star guard duo Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jamal Murray. Germany is the defending World Cup champion.
Even South Sudan, the world’s youngest country, gave Team USA a tough time in an exhibition game. The Americans didn’t completely dominate in the warm-up games. Steve Kerr may have led Team USA to an undefeated record, but their poor performances against both teams were a major factor. South Sudan and Germany The impression was created that anyone could win this tournament.
A total of 12 teams will take part in the tournament. The teams will be split into three groups, with four teams from each group playing each other once. The top two teams from each group, plus two wild card teams, will advance. From there, it’s a single-elimination tournament. One missed shot, one questionable call, one bad whistle can get you eliminated.
