Richard Gaddcreator and star NetflixEmmy-nominated series Baby Reindeeris gearing up to testify in Netflix’s $170 million lawsuit against the “real-life” Martha Scott.

The actor is not named as a defendant in the lawsuit brought by the Scottish woman against Netflix. Fiona Harvey But in an affidavit filed Monday, he supported dismissal of the lawsuit.

The audience was enthralled by the stories of Donny the amateur comedian. Gad plays The Netflix series stars Martha, a London pub hostess who was harassed and stalked for years, sending her more than 41,000 emails, 744 tweets, 100 pages of letters and 350 hours of voicemails. Martha was convicted of stalking in 2009 and had already served a four-and-a-half-year prison sentence. Baby Reindeer(who was ultimately jailed for nine months for blackmailing and sexually harassing Gadd). The actor plays himself in the show, which is based on the hit play of the same name that premiered in London’s West End. “This is a true story,” reads the title card in the first episode.

Viewers quickly found the “real” Martha on social media, after it emerged that Harvey had sent Gad a tweet years ago asking him to “hang the curtains.” Baby Reindeer“The character of ‘Martha’ Baby Reindeer “It was intended to describe me,” Harvey said in a statement. The Hollywood Reporter Through her lawyers, “The problem for Richard Gadd, and now for Netflix, is Baby Reindeer This is completely untrue. I am not a “convicted stalker”. I have never been charged with any crime. … No one has contacted me for comment. Baby Reindeer “Or very serious and damaging allegations that I have been convicted, have a serious criminal record and have served time in prison. No one has ever presented me in this way or asked my permission to use my image.”

Gad addressed the lawsuit in a 21-page legal statement: “I am a comedian, writer and actor, and I have written and starred in a series for Netflix. Baby Reindeer (“The Series”). I have personal knowledge of the facts set forth below and can and will properly testify thereto if called as a witness. I am filing this affidavit in support of Defendants Netflix, Inc. and Netflix Worldwide Entertainment, LLC’s Special Motion to Dismiss,” he said.

Gadd points out: Baby Reindeer “About my personal struggles with my sexual identity and my experiences with sexual abuse and harassment,” it reads. But there’s an important part: “The series is a drama; it is not a documentary or a claim to realism. The series is based on my life and real events, and while it is emotionally true in nature, it is not a word-for-word recounting of the events or emotions I experienced. It is a work of fiction and is not intended to depict actual facts.”

The Scottish journalist continues to recount his own experience with Harvey, whom he met at the Holy Arms pub in 2014. He describes Harvey as having “give him a hand job” as she memorised his shift patterns and turned up at the establishment repeatedly, and he sought to avoid physical contact. He states that Harvey had become “increasingly hostile” towards him over the years, sending him “thousands of emails, hundreds of voicemails and numerous handwritten letters”. These communications often contained sexually explicit, violent and abusive material, as well as hateful remarks and threats.

A series of emails and “evidence” sent by Harvey to Gadd are also attached to the document. Gadd explains that he has reported her behaviour to the police on multiple occasions, as her harassment was “plaguing” his life. “I continued to change my daily routine to avoid her and avoided going to areas of London that I knew Harvey would frequent (in fact, I still feel uneasy about going to certain parts of London because of her),” Gadd says. Harvey’s main argument is that he has never been to prison for stalking, nor has he ever been convicted of stalking, something the star makes no mention of.

“It’s a very difficult situation,” Harvey’s New York-based lawyer, Richard Ross, said in his first interview since the lawsuit was filed. The Hollywood Reporter that He is looking forward to “cross-examination” Gad and Netflix have spoken out about the allegations made in the show. “I think Netflix should be ashamed,” Roth said. “There is only one truth, and for Netflix to say this is a true story is nonsense. It’s not a true story. If Netflix says this is a true story, I think they have an obligation to make it a true story.” At the time of Roth’s interview, Netflix had said, “We will defend this issue vigorously and will defend Richard Gadd’s right to tell his story.”

Ross said in a statement on Tuesday. Thursday Regarding the affidavit filed: “Netflix’s allegations are complex. First, Netflix and Richard Gadd Baby Reindeer teeth do not have By acknowledging the nature of Mr. Harvey’s allegations, the story was proven to be true. Fiona HarveyFurther attacks against Mr. Harvey have followed, making claims that have absolutely no relation to the lawsuit or the “truth.” Baby ReindeerMeanwhile, Richard Gadd continues to hide from the press.”
