Skier given 5% chance of survival after accident achieves ‘miraculous’ recovery

A young woman who was only given 5% chance of survival after a horrific ski accident calls her Recovery “miracles”.

Olivia Corbière, 23, suffered from brain hemorrhage, lung injury, broken pelvis and three broken vertebrae when she was 15 feet down the valley in Bansko, Bulgaria during a ski outing in March 20244. The news agency SWNS reported.

Initially, doctors told Corbiere’s parents, Linzi Corbiere and Sebastien Corbiere, that their daughter’s chances of pulling out were limited.

“We were told she might live 5% and might not talk,” the mother said.

British kitchen designer Corbiere went on a five-day spring ski trip. A group of close friends and her 19-year-old sister, Phoebe.

On March 17th, the group woke up early for a day of skiing in the mountains. But just before lunch, things went awful turn.

“We were having a conversation about where we were going to eat,” Corbière said. “It was one of the last things I remember before my accident.”

As she was heading along the ski path, her right skiing crossed her left and she began to lose control. Warm weather According to SWNS, Corbiere was melting the snow in a way that she couldn’t turn her skis like she normally would.

Corbière slid and tumbled over the edge into the valley.

“The actions of my sister and my friend that day are what makes me here.”

Three of her fellow skiers jumped into the valley to rescue her, while others were called emergency services.

Corbière is rushed to the hospital, where Medic says he has “never seen” a head injury like her.

The accident left her with three broken vertebrae, a broken pelvis, a fracture and a broken nose, as reported by SWNS.

She endured her for four hours given a life-threatening brain hemorrhage. Emergency surgeryMeanwhile, the experts removed some of her skull.

When she returned to the UK For continuous treatmentthe doctor warned his parents to prepare for a long recovery that lasts months or perhaps years.

However, Corbiere, who has not recall the five-week period after the accident, began to improve more quickly than expected.

“When I moved from the intensive care ward to the Neuro ward, it was about three or four days later, and my memories began to come back,” she said.

Mom said, “Now she can laugh and joke about herself and such things. It’s really, really good. We’re definitely over the moon.”

Corbiere is now back at home – and she even managed to enjoy a meal with her family.

Her story is widely shared, including fundraising pages. And she said she was unsure how many people around the world offered sympathy after hearing about her accident, according to SWN.

“There are so many good people in the world,” she said. “I can’t thank you anymore.”

One supporter wrote to his family, “Thinking about you, I can’t imagine how difficult this will be for you.”

Despite the traumatic injuries, Corbière said he hopes to hit the slope again soon.

“I’ve been skiing for years and I absolutely love it. I shouldn’t postpone anything that was a total accident and enjoying what I do.” she said.

“I’d like to try again once I’m completely good and feel better.”
