One study included over 4.6 million people. The other was a large review examining 12 previous studies, including over 75 million people. This is said to be the biggest combination study examining the relationship between cannabis and heart attacks.

Healthy cannabis users People under the age of 50 were more than six times more likely to experience a heart attack than people who didn’t use the substance, researchers found.

They also had four times the chances of suffering a stroke, twice the chances of experiencing heart failure, and three times the chances of dying from a cardiac event.

Marijuana use is linked to an increased risk of asthma in young people, according to a study: the health effects of “worry”

This risk has been shown to peak soon after cannabis is used in one of the studies.

All participants had no previous heart condition, not cigarette users, but healthy blood pressure; Cholesterol levelsand there was no history of diabetes.

“We know that smoking a cigarette increases the risk of cardiac events. It’s reasonable to assume that smoking marijuana poses a similar risk.”

This study did not specify exactly how marijuana compromises. Heart healthhowever, researchers have presented several possibilities.

They say, “It can affect the regulation of the heart rhythm, increase the myocardial oxygen demand and contribute to endothelial dysfunction, which can lead to relaxation and enlargement of blood vessels and disrupt blood flow.”

“Questioning about cannabis use should be part of a clinician’s work-up to understand the overall cardiovascular risk of a patient. Smoking a cigarette“The lead author of Ibrahim Kamel, Maryland, clinical instructor, a clinical instructor at Boston University’s Chobanian & Avevedijian School of Medicine and an internal medicine resident at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Boston, said.

Dr. Jasdeep Dalawari, an Illinois-based interventional cardiologist and regional chief medical officer at Vitalsolution, the health company of Ingenovis, was not involved in the study, but repeated the limitations as a retrospective study.

“Randomized controlled trials are ideal, but they are difficult on this topic,” he told Fox News Digital. “As marijuana becomes more ubiquitous, we raise questions about the safety of marijuana.”

“At the policy level, we should give fair warnings to those who consume cannabis to know that there is a risk.”

Dalawari said the study was “interesting and concerning,” but he also sought more data on the topic.

“I advise all patients to stop smoking all substances because smoking cigarettes increases the risk of cardiac events and know that it is reasonable. Smoking marijuana We present similar risks,” he said.

“It will be interesting to know if this study addresses the risk of intake versus smoking. Still, I would recommend that patients limit cannabis use. A definitive study It’s been published. ”
