FDA chief unsure of COVID vaccine recommendations, calling for more data

However, FDA commissioner Dr. Marty McCurry has expressed doubts about whether it is necessary for the 2025-2026 season.

The FDA chief has also expressed concern about the lack of data to support Novavax’s Covid vaccine and is calling for more research into its effectiveness before approval.

“It’s my general feelings, not this particular product, and for detailed products, discussing drugs in general needs to know if they’re working today so they can recommend them,” McCurry told CBS News Tuesday.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is also considering narrowing down recommendations A wide range of covid vaccines It starts from 2025-2026.

In its April report, the agency offered three options: Covid booster. To maintain a “universal vaccine policy” for everyone over six months, it is recommended only for groups at high risk for severe covid disease, or use risk-based recommendations up to age 64 and switch to universal recommendations at age 65.
