This was published this week in Neurology, the medical journal of the American Society of Neurology (AAN), according to a new study at Aalborg University Hospital in Denmark.

a Mini stroke – Medically known as a temporary ischemic attack (TIA) – According to Mayo Clinic, it is a temporary blockage of blood flow to the brain that causes a “short period of symptoms.”

Stroke, dementia and depression share these 17 preventable risk factors

This study found that those experiencing TIA were more likely to report long-term fatigue that lasted up to one year.

“A patient is presumed to have reported fatigue at a level comparable to a stroke,” Birgitte Hede Ebbesen, Pt, and PhD, physiotherapist at Aalborg University Hospital, told Fox News Digital.

The researchers followed an average of 354 people who had experienced ministrokes, an average of 70 years old.

For 12 months, participants reported fatigue levels in five areas. Mental fatigueAccording to a university press release.

On a scale ranging from 4 to 20, 20 people were most exhausted, but participants reported an average score of 12.3 over the two weeks following ministrokes, 11.9 over the three months, and 11.4 over the first year mark and 11.1 over the first year mark.

Two weeks after ministroke, 61% reported high levels of fatigue. Over the course of 3, 6 and 12 months, 54% said they experienced fatigue.

Those who reported long-term fatigue were twice as likely to have experienced it. Anxiety and depressiona study has been discovered. Several have also been reported

“I encountered fatigue among patients with TIA IN Clinical settingsso we knew it was there, but the frequency still surprised us,” Modrau told Fox News Digital.

Do you feel extra fatigue? The virus could be the perpetrator, research suggests

“We found that long-term fatigue is common in our study participants group and that if people experience fatigue within two weeks of leaving the hospital, they are likely to continue fatigued for up to a year.”

Based on these findings, Modrau suggests that people diagnosed with temporary ischemic attacks should be monitored. Prolonged fatigue In the next few weeks and months.

Brain stroke

According to Mayo Clinic, ministrokes – medically known as temporary ischemic attacks (TIAs) – temporary blood flow occlusion to the brain is a temporary blockage of blood flow to the brain. (istock)

“This helps to better understand who is suffering from fatigue over the long term and require further care.”

More commonly known symptoms of stroke include drooping face, weak arms, or obscure speech. This usually resolves within a day. Some patients also reported long-term cognitive problems.

Causes of fatigue after stroke

Bradley Selwer, an Interventional cardiologist Also, the chief medical officer of Vitalsolution, an Ingenovis Health Company, which provides cardiovascular and anesthesia services to hospitals around the country, confirmed that fatigue after stroke is very common and sometimes “debilitating.”

“Fatigue is multifactorial and rarely comes from a single cause,” Serwer, who was not involved in the study, told Fox News Digital.

“Fatigue is multifactorial and rarely comes from a single cause.”

The Maryland-based cardiologist shared the next potential reason for fatigue following the ministroke.

Brain healing: “After a stroke, the brain tries to heal itself,” Selwer said. “This process causes The brain works violently There is a high demand for energy, as it “rewires” itself. This often causes patients to feel drained or tired. ”

Increased inflammation: This can occur due to the immune response after TIA.

medicine: Drugs used to treat stroke can have adverse effects on side effects, including fatigue. “Betablockers are excellent Blood pressure medication It is often prescribed after a stroke or heart attack, but can cause significant fatigue,” Selwer noted.

Other factors: “A simple task may require more mental effort than before the injury,” the cardiologist said. “Depression or anxiety after stroke is also a predictor of fatigue.”

Potential limitations

The study had several limitations, the researchers noted.

“That’s Observational research Therefore, we cannot determine causality,” Modrau said.

“Results are based on self-reported surveys and we cannot be certain that relatives did not fill them out or affect the results.”

Additionally, researchers had previously suggested that they “occur much more frequently” after ministrokes, but the researchers had no information about their previous fatigue levels.

Modrau said he hopes in the future. Healthcare provider Permanent fatigue after TIA begins to appear and provide care routes for these patients.

“To date, patients with persistent challenges after TIA have been neglected,” she told Fox News Digital.

“We, as a society, should begin to acknowledge their difficulties, rather than view them as ‘lucky people’,” she continued. “My goal in this study was to give these patients a voice and listen to their struggles.”
