Owners of clean beauty brands want higher safety standards

In a camera interview with Emily Austin, owner of Fox News Digital, TV Personality and Clean Beauty brands, he expressed his excitement about pushing for change in the Maha movement, calling for US-made products to meet EU standards.

For those who are Hair care routineBrushing is an essential tool for daily maintenance, but brushing your hair while wet can cause more harm than good.

Common habits can permanently weaken hair at the “molecular level,” according to Dr. Mehmet Erdogan, co-founder and hair transplant surgeon in Istanbul.

This can lead to increased damage and thinning over time. A 2022 study from the University of Manchester reflected this, finding that water can alter the hair’s response to stress.

“When your hair gets wet, you undergo important physical changes that can affect your ability to deal with the stress caused by brushing,” Erdogan said in a comment she shares with Fox News Digital.

“Water inflates the hair shaft, stretches out the cuticle, making it more susceptible to breakage.”

“Applying proper hair care when wet is the best way to maintain healthy hair for a long time and prevent unnecessary thinning caused by breakage,” the experts share. (istock)

Studies have shown that wet hair grows more than dry hair before it breaks, but Erdoangan has revealed that this does not mean that hair is more flexible and resilient.

“The opposite is true. This stretch damages the internal protein structure and weakens the hair over time,” he warned.

“Wet hair is more likely to break, and rough brushing can cause breakage.”

“The brush pulls swollen, weakened chains and stretches beyond volume. While dry, it does not return to its original state and remains damaged at the structural level.”

Ashley DiMatteo, owner of Ashley Lauren Beauty Lounge in Westchester, New York, told Fox News Digital in an interview that the salon “doubtfully saw it” by brushing wet hair.

“Wet hair is more fragile and rough brushing can cause breakage,” she said. “But that’s rarely one problem – Hair loss or damage It often comes from a combination of factors such as stress, hormones, heat styling, and chemical treatment. ”

Brianna Delvecchio, color specialist and hairdresser at Dimatteo’s Salon, agreed that brushing wet hair can cause damage, especially using rough or the wrong tools.

Stress and other factorsdiet, hormones and overprocessing can also play a role in hair damage, she confirmed.

Erdogan said that because the protein’s structure is “already changed” and whether it’s coloured and permed or relaxed, those with fine, chemically treated hair “particularly susceptible to wet brushing damage.”

Tips for minimizing hair damage

The risk doesn’t mean people should skip brushing completely, Delvecchio said not to brush wet hair can lead to “knots and matte messes.”

“You need to brush it. Just do it gently and the right way,” she advised.

Using salon clients, Dimatteo recommends taking a “gentle approach” to hair.

“We also take some time to talk about scalp health. Nutrition and lifestylebecause they all play a role,” she told Fox News Digital. “And most importantly, you’re not embarrassed or shy to talk to your stylist or your local salon. We’re here to help.”

To reduce the risk of hair damage, experts recommend using a wide comb or a flexible dentangle brush.

“The soft hair is perfect for dismantling without too much tension,” Delvecchio said. “As long as you’re still calm and patient, it’s a solid choice for all hair types.”

Salon owners also suggested using a holiday product that helps soften and hydrate the hair, making it “a lot easier for the comb to slip.”

“Technique is also important. Always start from the bottom and go gently and smoothly,” advised Dimatteo.

According to hair surgeons, for people with straight hair, it is recommended that the hair be partially air-dried before it stops.

The American Academy of Dermatology also recommends this approach.

“Use heat protectants, reduce the heat of the tool, avoid overlapping bleach and catch up with the trim,” she suggested.

“We also brush them regularly (wet or dry) to prevent tangles and breakage,” she continued. “Hair is delicate, but with the right habits, it can stay Strong and healthy. ”
