New Daily Pills lower cholesterol and reduce heart attacks. Risk of stroke.

An experimental drug called Obicetrapib was undergoing a Phase 3 clinical trial at Monash University, Australia.

The trial included over 2,500 people with an average age of 65. According to a university press release, all of them were diagnosed with heart disease or had genetically high cholesterol.

Obicetrapib was found to be “well tolerated” by participants, researchers noted.

“This could be a valuable tool in the fight against heart disease,” Nichols added. “It may be convenient, effective and may help fill the gaps in patients who have no choice.”

The study was funded by Newamsterdam Pharma, developer of Netherlands-based Obicetrapib, but there are some limitations, the researchers said.

For example, participants were not selected based on high LP (a). In other words, this study did not determine how the drug affected people with increased protein levels.
