New research suggests that Psilocybin is also known as Magic Mushroomcan extend the lifespan.

Researchers at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, found that psilocybin increases cell lifespan. Improved survival rate In an aged mouse.

Psilocybin, as defined in this study, is a “naturally occurring psychedelic compound produced by hallucinating mushrooms.”

A single dose of “magic mushrooms” provides five years of depression relief, researchers found

Psilocybin has recently attracted attention for its “substantial clinical evidence” about its various psychiatric and treatment possibilities. Neurodegenerative conditionsthe researchers pointed out.

This study, published in the journal Nature, revealed the first experimental evidence that treatment with psilocin, the “active metabolite” of psilocybin, increases the lifespan of older mice.

This suggests that psilocybin could be a “powerful pregnancy agent,” the researchers wrote.

Louise Hecker, co-author at Emory University, said the data suggests that psilocybin affects “multiple features of aging.”

This includes reducing oxidative stress levels and preventing DNA damage, also known as preserving “telomere length.” (Telomeres are DNA protein structures at the edges of chromosomes that help prevent cell damage.)

Parkinson’s patients taking “magic mushrooms” see important benefits, according to research

“Psilocybin appears to slow down the ‘wear’ associated with aging,” Hecker said in an interview with Fox News Digital. “Mice and cells I’m healthy I’ve lived quite a long time. ”

The treatment had “dramatic effects on cell life extension,” and increased survival in mice even when administered later in life, researchers noted.

The mice also looked healthier, and once grew white dark hair.

“Most of what we know about psilocybin is the clinical outcomes and what it does in the brain,” commented Hecker. “These studies shed light on the fact that psilocybin has a powerful effect on the whole body.”

As these are the first studies showing the effects of psilocybin on aging, Hecker noted that there is still “to learn” about the potential of drugs.

“What is the best administration protocol for humans? What is the optimal age? Treatment begins For the best advantage? ” Hecker asked.

“If the treatment does not provide effectiveness, beyond that point, are there any potential harms or side effects associated with long-term treatment? What is the mechanism behind its effects? All these questions should be rigorously tested.”

Additional research is needed to answer these questions and see if treatment affects lifespan, Hecker said.

Gabe Charambides, founder of America’s first legal psilocybin retreat in Oregon, said he considers these findings “convincing.”

“On the other hand, psilocybin testing in most humans is focused on. Mental health outcomes – Depression, anxiety, PTSD – This study highlights physiological changes, including markers of cellular aging,” he said in an interview with Fox News Digital.

The Charambides retreat has not tested biological changes, but many guests said they are reporting relief from physical illnesses. Chronic pain Migraines.

“These self-reports suggest that there are mental and body effects.

Sharambides noted that psilocybin administration should be “sharply” different from mice to humans in terms of screening, preparation and protection.

Individuals who benefit most from psilocybin therapy include those who are “stuck” after important life events, such as childhood trauma, divorce, sudden career changes, or bereavement. Mental healthhe added.

Ryan Moss, chief science officer at Filament Health, a Canadian clinical stage natural psychedelic drug developer, emphasizes the importance of administering psychedelics in a safe environment.

“Psychedelic experiences can be characterized by anxiety, hallucinations and delusions,” Moss previously told Fox News Digital. “Some patients who use traditional psychedelics have had adverse experiences, some patients have Cardiovascular events Under clinical trials. ”

To mitigate these risks, Moss recommended that clinical trial participants undergo thorough preparation and monitoring by trained experts during the session.
