Las Vegas – Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry He made it clear that he wants to remain a member of the only NBA team he has played for throughout his career.
And the Warriors feel the same way.
The 36-year-old Curry, whose contract is set to expire after the 2025-26 season, is eligible for another year this summer. It’s not the most pressing issue for Golden State as it navigates the remainder of free agency, but it is one the Warriors’ front office is keeping an eye on.
“He can have anything he wants,” Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy said in a Friday press conference. “He’s been through the draft, free agency, summer league, and it’s all going to work out. Steph, I think we can say with confidence that he’s going to be a Warriors member for life.”
Getting the most out of Curry’s remaining prime years will be a top priority for the Warriors, especially as they head into next season. Klay ThompsonBay Area era.
Regardless of whether Thompson decides to stay or go, the team knew they needed to make changes after being eliminated in the second round in 2023 and missing the playoffs last season.
“I think it’s going to be difficult to coach the same team again,” Dunleavy said. “46 wins is a pretty good record, but we didn’t make the playoffs. But we’re not screwed. We just need to make some adjustments. I think we’ve done that, and I’m excited about this team.”
The Warriors are looking to revamp their roster. Kyle Anderson, Buddy Hield and DeAnthony Melton Coach Dunleavy said the three players fit the shooting and defensive ability Golden State is looking for.
Dunleavy said the Warriors are still open to adding new players, but he doesn’t think it will happen anytime soon.
“Free agency has calmed down. We have 14 players and we’re playing against the first apron, so it’s going to be tough to add to that right now,” Dunleavy said. “But we’re looking around the league, talking to teams and exploring different things to get better.”
“I like our team, but there are some things we can improve on.”
Even if the Warriors do acquire new players, they are prioritizing younger players. Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody — Also eligible for a contract extension — and Brandin Podziemski and Trace Jackson Davis.
Kuminga, like Podziemski, was in and out of the starting lineup last season, but both will likely be considerations for the starter next season.
“Young guys can develop to take that next step,” Dunleavy said.
But everything the Warriors do between now and then will revolve around Curry. Draymond Green And how do we surround ourselves with the best talent for the next two years, and hopefully longer?
“Steph and Draymond are still at a very high level, so we have to make some careful decisions to maintain that championship level,” Dunleavy said. “We have to pay the tax to do that. We’re serious about winning.”
