Today’s minor news: From Software Apparently they’ve soft-launched their biggest dragon yet. Elden Ring: Shadow of the Eld Treeand it feels like you can measure a studio’s success by the length of its winged beasts.
Youtube channel Witch Zuriwho specializes in all things related to FromSoft’s popular hits, recently released a video taking a closer look at a mysterious dragon found dead in the Land of Shadows, who may soon take the crown as the new greatest beast from the studio’s catalogue.
Demon’s Souls’ Dragon God once held that honor. According to Zurie the Witch, the giant beast was about 600 feet from nose to tail. But if you want to include non-breathing mythical creatures, Elden RingThe largest will be the Reindel, with a total length of approximately 328 metres.
All of this has been called into question with the release of Shadow of the Erdtree and its new, unnamed dragon. The dragon is so large that the studio has sketched its rotting corpse onto the in-game map. Watch the video below to see the poor thing die, tongue out, eyes hollow.
Shadow of the Eldtree’s new challenger is about 10.7 times the size of the Jagged Peak Drake, at an estimated 392 meters. When Zuli the Witch scales up the tiny drake to that size, the threat makes Shadow of the Colossus’ boss fight look like cannon fodder. Lucky you’re dead in the expansion, right?
It’s funny to see a mini arms race going on within the studio to make dragons bigger and bigger. But how big can they get? In FromSoft’s next game, they might have to climb a mountain. Ah snap – A dragon sleeping in secret. How about showcasing an entire dungeon built inside a dragon’s body, like the worm level in Gears of War 2 – everything the dragon has eaten over the millennia? How about putting the entire game on a moving dragon? We’re Director Hidetaka Miyazaki talks about his “ideal fantasy RPG”.
