Charlie Woods will have a long way to go on the second and final day of stroke play. U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at Oakland Hills Country Club.
Woods, the 15-year-old son of golf legend Tiger Woods, will compete in the final round of a 36-hole stroke-play qualifying round on the South Course on Tuesday at 1:48 p.m. Woods finished the first day tied for 242nd. He is in third place after shooting a 12-over 82 in the first round on the North Course on Wednesday. He is in a three-way with Chase Caiz, an 18-year-old University of Alabama golf player who shot an even-par 70 on Monday, and Davis Obard, an 18-year-old Baylor University golf player who shot a 3-over 73 on Monday.
Monarques:Charlie Woods’ disastrous round ended with him and Tiger blowing fans and reporters away.
Woods must finish within the top 64 cut line over two days of stroke play to advance to the tournament bracket match play that will run through Saturday’s championship match. Woods will play on the South Course, which has served as the home of major championships at Oakland Hills for more than 100 years. It was renovated from 2019 to 2021 and is 500 yards longer than the North Course.
Tiger will likely be a fan for the second straight day after walking with the crowd behind his son during the first round on Monday — parents are not allowed to caddie for their children at the U.S. Junior Amateur.
