Like many others, I’ve been immersed in Baldur’s Gate 3 for hours, and I haven’t even set foot inside the eponymous citadel yet. Faerûn is a living, breathing world, where the smallest decisions can send ripples like butterfly effects, completely changing storylines and sealing off other storylines we didn’t know existed. A new RPG that combines that open-endedness with the vivid, magical feel of Fable. farmers is looking to shake up the fantasy genre, and has just raised over $100,000 on Kickstarter to make it a reality.
The brainchild of Finland-based developer Harakka Studio farmers ” Roleplaying It’s the Dungeons & Dragons genre. You’re not some destined hero, some mighty warrior on a journey to defeat evil and restore peace to the world. Instead, you’re a lowly peasant who’s fed up with adventurers kicking over tables and starting fights in the tavern. Basically, if you’ve ever wondered what an NPC is like in a Dungeons & Dragons game, you’re about to experience it firsthand.
But how you do that is entirely up to you: you can change between 12 “tech tree” paths, including different classes, Steampunk, Draconic, Mimicry and more, each of which grants unique skills. Be careful which path you choose, though, as some choices lock down other options.
Harraka’s example is the Steampunk path, which requires you to use a lot of natural resources and therefore separates you from the Druidic tree. When you commit to the Steampunk path, your items and armor change accordingly, becoming more industrial. With Peasant, it’s all about results.
In other words, It’s all about results. “There’s no railroad,” says Harraka. Players are simply free to act and cause chaos. Kill the only dragon hunter, for example, and more dragons will spawn. Kick a chicken, and they’ll hate you and maybe start a bird revolt. Every choice matters, and where the possibilities felt endless in Baldur’s Gate 3, in Peasant they feel even more expansive.
Your choices also affect those around you. Peasant has a fully-functional romance system, companion mechanics, and unique factions, all of which will react differently depending on your decisions. But if you make a mistake, there’s no undoing it, not even if you save the scum, like I did after being abandoned by Astarion. The world around you will remember it, and you may suffer for it.
Base building, vehicles and adorable creatures await you – all this combines to make Peasant one of the most vibrant worlds ever created. As I write this article, I discover new things and become more and more engrossed in what appears to be one of the most ambitious games ever made. Upcoming PC Games there.

According to the Kickstarter page, Peasant’s Early Access date is set for six months after funding closes on Friday, August 2nd. It’s officially marked on my calendar and I can’t wait.
