The 90-year-old amateur golfer is celebrating a once-in-a-lifetime moment as he pounds his first hole-in-one just a day later Milestone Birthday. (See the video at the top of this article.)
John Payne said he’s been playing golf for 30 years, but achieved a feat on July 18th at a local UK golf course.
The longtime player nailed the shot on the sixth hole, a par 3 for 200 yards, despite dealing with poor eyesight.

“I didn’t realize it was in,” Payne told news agency SWNS.
“It’s 200 yards from the tee to the hole. I never imagined that I would put it in one.”
Payne says he used the driver to hit the ball and watches him hit the downslope of the bunker before rolling straight into the cup.
“When I was told to hit the perfect shot, I felt the magic,” he said. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime shot.”

“Some people never had it in their lives, so I can see why,” he said.
“I’ve played for 30 years and now I’ve got it. It’s a miracle because it’s so difficult.”

He now plays regularly with a close group of fellow golfers, he said.
“When you come to the end of your work life, you want to be busy,” he said. “I hope you’re out and not cooperating.”
He said, “We play on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. It’s a lovely little group of eight of us.”
Payne maintains a club handicap of about 26, but he said he no longer competes in official tournaments.

“I’m too long in my teeth for that,” he joked.
Beyond golf, Payne remains active in two gym sessions a week.
“Golf is important The gym is important Because of the movement aspect of things,” he said.

Payne celebrated his amazing hole-in-one with his family, including 16 grandchildren and great grandchildren, SWNS said.
Gurj Bowbanks, operations manager for the golf course, said everyone at the club was excited about him.
