Amazon Prime Day sales drives $14.2 billion in online sales, a record

AmazonTwo days Prime Day Event Online shopping spending hit a record $14.2 billion, up 11% from last year, according to sales tracking data from Adobe Analytics, making it arguably the height of the boom period.

On each of the two days of the online event, Tuesday, July 16th and Wednesday, July 17th, online spending in the U.S. reached $7 billion, the company said. Adobe Analysis It tracks online transactions across more than 1 trillion visits to U.S. retail sites. (Adobe’s spending data is aggregated and anonymized, so it doesn’t directly track Amazon sales, but Prime Day Deals.

According to Adobe Analytics, nearly half (49.2%) of online purchases are made on a mobile device rather than a desktop computer, up 18.6% from a year ago.

Amazon did not release sales figures, but said it was its biggest Prime Day shopping event ever, with record sales and more items sold than any other Prime Day in history. Millions of new members join Amazon Primesays Amazon.

The company said that contributed to the success of the event. A Prime subscription costs $14.99 a month or $139 a year, and perks include free same-day shipping and free two-day shipping, as well as free shipping on Amazon Prime members. Prime Video, Amazon Music more.

“Prime Day 2024 was a huge success, thanks to the millions of Prime members around the world who turned to Amazon for great deals, and to our employees, delivery partners and merchants around the world who helped make the event a success for customers,” Doug Herrington, CEO of Worldwide Amazon Stores, said in a statement.

Amazon Prime Day: What did you buy?

Nearly half of online spending during the period Prime Day Vivek Pandya, principal analyst at Adobe Digital Insights, said in a press release that he is focusing on the electronics, apparel and furniture sectors, which are seeing “low single-digit growth” in the first half of 2024. A closer look at spending Prime DayAccording to Adobe Analytics:

  • Back to School: Compared to daily sales levels in June 2024, sales of backpacks, lunch boxes, stationery and other school and office supplies increased by 216% on both days.
  • clothes: Purchases of children’s clothing increased by 165%. Sales of suits increased by 36%, as did sales of outerwear (19%), footwear (17%) and accessories (17%).
  • electronics: Overall sales of electronics increased 61%, with particular strengths in tablets (up 117%), TVs (up 111%), headphones and Bluetooth speakers (up 105%), fitness trackers (up 88%), computers (up 80%), smartphones (up 71%) and cameras (up 60%).
  • furniture and Home appliances: Sales of small kitchen appliances increased 76%, while kitchen utensils and cookware increased 25%. There were also increases in mattresses (up 21%), home office furniture (up 14%) and bedroom furniture (up 11%).

How much did Americans spend on Prime Day?

The average order value on Prime Day in 2024 was $57.97, according to the research firm. moleculeThis is based on a survey of 93,513 Prime Day orders placed by 35,588 households between July 16-17.

More than half (60%) of tracked households placed two or more separate orders, with the average household spend coming in at approximately $152.33.

According to Numerator, the top five most purchased items are: Amazon Fire TV Stick, Premier Protein Shake, Liquid drip pack, Happy trash bagand COSRX Snail Mucus Serum.

Shoppers are paring back purchases in favor of “small luxuries and everyday items,” Numerator analyst Amanda Schonbauer said in a statement. “Shoppers are making fewer big-ticket purchases than in years past and participating in fewer multiple orders during sales periods, signaling a shift toward more mindful shopping and a preference for saving rather than splurging.”
