Five months since Jon Stewart Came back In hosting “The Daily Show,” he reunited with his old rival, former Fox host and commentator Bill O’Reilly.

“Stewart and I have a history, you know? We go way back,” O’Reilly said on Tuesday night’s broadcast, drawing laughter from the audience.

A lot has changed since the two were frequently engaged in late-night debates in the early 2010s, and not just in politics. I once said Giving O’Reilly a platform is perhaps “The Daily Show’s worst legacy,” and the show 2015Fox fired O’Reilly two years later following a series of sexual harassment complaints against him. Explained “There is absolutely no basis for this.”

Some online criticized Stewart’s decision to invite O’Reilly onto her show. In 2016, former Fox News host Gretchen Carlson wrote: Sued Fox News CEO Roger Ailes accused of sexual harassment It is called Journalist Yashar Ali said the decision was “incredibly egregious… The fact that O’Reilly is back on the platform propagates the idea that bad men will continue to be punished and brave women will continue to be punished.” I have written “There was no reason to give it.” [O’Reilly] He cannot stand at the “podium” without being questioned about the allegations against him.

The allegations were not addressed on Tuesday night’s show, but O’Reilly said he and Stewart “can overcome our differences without hating each other,” before joking, “I really dislike him, but I don’t show it.” Stewart responded, “You’re holding it in well.”

The topic for Tuesday night’s show is Assassination attempt To the former president Donald Trump “The Daily Show” spoke about his speech at a campaign rally on Saturday and the state of political polarization in the U.S. The show was originally scheduled to air from Milwaukee, where the Republican National Convention is being held this week, but returned to its New York studios after the shooting. SaidStewart said Tuesday night that increased security at the event has made it more difficult to host spectators.

O’Reilly said “The View” was leading the coverage. Archer Registered to attend Trump’s rallies Republican.

“Look, you and I are both kind of fossil practitioners of the art of rhetoric, which is sometimes confrontational and sometimes provocative,” Stewart responded, “and we’ve made a really great living by pushing the boundaries of that, and now it seems like other people are saying we should stop… Isn’t the argument that we should start debating each other in good faith?”

O’Reilly defended criticism and “lively debate” in politics, but said the “difference” was that “fanatics on the left and right want to see their opponents destroyed, they want to hurt them.”

Stewart said he did not disagree with O’Reilly’s comments, but added: [on the right] They don’t do that, and that’s the province of the left.”

“How can we have a conversation about rhetoric if we can’t even agree, and there’s this delusion of, ‘Is it really just them?'” Stewart added.

The pair also traded sarcastic comments during the show, with O’Reilly mentioning his “job as a journalist” to which Stewart replied, “Yeah, when did you get that job?”

They also discussed the president’s record. President Biden O’Reilly cited economic and social problems he blamed on Biden and Stewart blamed on Trump, and Stewart mocked O’Reilly’s comments that he blamed Biden for Trump’s actions. January 6th He said the riot “has haunted him every day since” and disagreed with O’Reilly’s view that Trump would have had a big lead in the polls without the riot.

O’Reilly and Stewart Frequently in conflict Over the years, and especially in 2014, Discussed Problem of White Privilege This follows the shooting death of Michael Brown, an unarmed 18-year-old black man, by a white police officer.
