Nineteen people were treated at a Boston-area hospital after an SUV crashed into the Apple store at Hingham Derby Street Shops shortly before 11 a.m. Monday. Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Crews said at a press conference that it had smashed through the glass and hit multiple people. Cruz said a criminal investigation was ongoing. Nineteen people died and 19 were being treated at a Boston-area hospital after an SUV crashed into the Apple store at Hingham Derby Street Shops just before 11 a.m. Monday.
Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz said at a press conference that a 2019 Toyota 4Runner rammed into the store around 10:45 a.m., smashing through the glass and hitting multiple people.
Shortly after the crash, video from Sky 5 showed a large hole in the glass front of the store. There were multiple people outside the store and dozens of first responders on site tending to them.
Cruz said a criminal investigation was ongoing. The driver was not immediately identified by authorities.
“It’s been an unimaginable morning this morning. People are trying to get over it and process what happened,” Cruz said. “This investigation is active and ongoing.”
The store opened at 10am on Monday and the crash occurred less than an hour after opening.
Cruz said it was not clear how many people were in the store at the time.
“Really… when you go there to buy a phone or fix something, the absolutely unthinkable things that happened in that store are absolutely unthinkable,” Cruz said. said.

In a statement, Apple said the victim was a construction worker.

The district attorney’s office identified the victim as 65-year-old Kevin Bradley of New Jersey.
South Shore Health said it is treating 17 patients, ranging from head injuries to limb injuries.
“We have multiple patients with life-threatening and limb-threatening injuries,” said Dr. Christopher Burns, head of trauma at South Shore Health. There are people who are expected to enter.”
South Shore Health said all patients have been reunited with family and loved ones.
At a news conference Monday afternoon, officials said two more patients had been taken to Boston-area hospitals.

Frank O’Brien, who was shopping on Derby Street at the time, told Patriot Ledger that he wondered how fast it would take a car to break through the glass in front of the store.
“I’m going to have to really speed up to get to the storage area in the back of the Apple store,” he said.
A person who was inside the store at the time of the crash said the SUV appeared to be moving at high speed when it hit the store.
Another witness outside said it was “like a big explosion”. “It was very noisy.”
Cruz said only that the SUV was traveling at an undetermined speed when it hit the store. “There is an active investigation going on,” Cruz said.
“As for the car operator, we are investigating,” Cruz said. “As to the condition of the car, we are investigating. Of course, we will get as much information as possible before moving forward.”

Hingham police closed all stores at Derby Street Shops Plaza for the rest of the day, except for Whole Foods.
