A man wanted in connection with the murders of three women – including a BBC journalist’s wife and two daughters – on Tuesday night has been found following a manhunt.
Hertfordshire Police said in a statement that suspect Kyle Clifford, who police had warned may be in possession of a crossbow, was found in the Enfield area of north London on Wednesday afternoon and is currently receiving treatment for his injuries.
“Triple murder suspect” Bushy “The offender’s path was traced to a location in North London and following an extensive search, Kyle Clifford, 26, was located by officers this afternoon (Wednesday, July 10) in the Enfield area,” the statement said.
“At this stage it appears the suspect was known to the victim,” he added.
Police had earlier said they were searching for a 26-year-old man, named Kyle Clifford, in connection with the death, and said he may be in London or neighbouring Hertfordshire.
Police were called to a house in Bushey, Hertfordshire, on Tuesday evening where they found three seriously injured women, all of whom later died from their injuries.
The British public broadcaster BBC announced on Wednesday that the victims of the triple murder have been identified as Carol Hunt, the wife of BBC horseracing commentator John Hunt, and her two daughters. Police had previously said the victims, aged 25, 28 and 61, were killed in what appeared to be a “targeted incident.”
A crossbow is believed to have been used to kill the three people, but police said Wednesday that other weapons may have also been used.
A Ministry of Defence source told CNN that Clifford is due to retire from the British military in 2022 after a short period of service.
In a statement to staff, the BBC described the women’s deaths as “utterly tragic”, and in a letter sent to BBC 5 Live staff it said it would offer Mr Hunt “all the support we can”.
“The news today about John Hunt’s family is absolutely devastating,” it added. “Our thoughts are with John and his family at this extremely difficult time and we will offer all the support we can.”
Britain’s Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said she was receiving “constant updates” from police.
“The deaths of three women in Bushey last night are truly devastating. My thoughts go out to the family, friends and local community of those who have died,” Ms Cooper wrote on X on Wednesday.
“I am keeping myself updated and I would urge anyone with any information about this incident to assist Hertfordshire Police,” she added.
“I used to see them go by every day and say good morning,” a neighbour of the victims said, according to PA media.
“What happened is really sad and very shocking,” she added.
