Holmes With just over four minutes left in the game, he jumped to cover a pass but landed awkwardly and fell. Holmes remained down for several seconds as the game continued, then got up with a heavy limp and left the game seconds later on a dead ball. ESPN reported that Holmes left the Las Vegas arena on crutches.
Nuggets reporter Harrison Wind said: From DNVR.comcalled the injury “heartbreaking,” noting that the Nuggets traded up to acquire Holmes with the 22nd pick in the NBA draft, and said, “Holmes had a chance to play decent minutes this season. It’s really bad.”
Darron Holmes Sr., the Nuggets rookie’s father, posted on Twitter that the family has been touched and grateful for all the words of encouragement since the injury.
“Today we move beyond grief and turn our attention to understanding his path to recovery.” Holmes Sr. wrote:Several NBA players have overcome this injury and gone on to have successful careers, and Deuce can add his name to that list!”
Holmes is from Goodyear, Arizona, and played at Millennium High School. The official Millennium basketball account responded to his injury with a post on X early Saturday morning.
“I don’t even know what to say.” Millennium wrote“My heart breaks for you and your family! You are the hardest working athlete we have ever had. You will come back bigger, faster and stronger! I have no doubt! You have love and support from the entire community in Arizona, Denver, Dayton and around the world! We feel it with you, we feel the pain with you. We are here for you and what you need! Love you!”
Damon Durbin, who runs the Pro Lowd account on X, wrote that he was “truly heartbroken” about Holmes.
“He’s already signed a contract.” Durbin wrote“So he’ll still get paid this season and will be able to rehab under the supervision of the team, but this is a real shame. Luckily he has a great support system and the right mindset to get through this, but make sure to show him some love.”

The Nuggets’ first Summer League game started around 10:30 p.m. on Friday, and Holmes played 25 minutes, scoring 11 points and recording seven rebounds in an 88-78 loss to the Clippers.
Holmes made all three of his 3-pointers, protected the Clippers’ post players and forced turnovers by Clippers guards, leading to fast-break dunks.

Holmes was named a second-team All-American at UD last season, averaging 20 points and eight rebounds a game while leading the Flyers back to the NCAA Tournament with a first-round victory. He never missed a game during his collegiate career and has started all 102 games over the past three seasons.
