Deadpool and Wolverine
The first reactions to “Deadpool & Wolverine” are in and they’re overwhelmingly positive. The enthusiasm for the film comes at a much needed time for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which experienced rare flops with the release of “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantamania” and “The Marvels” last year. The latest “Deadpool” movie is the only Disney-backed Marvel film scheduled for release in 2024 and will mark the character’s official introduction to the MCU. The sequel has been called “great fun” and “a step in the right direction for Marvel” by the film press.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” sees Ryan Reynolds reprise his role as Marcus Mouse for the third time, while Hugh Jackman makes his long-awaited return as the iconic X-Men character following 2017’s “Logan.” That film marked the death of the character Wolverine, who Jackman had played since 2000’s “X-Men.” With the MCU’s multiverse underway, Jackman could return playing another iteration of the mutant. The film’s supporting cast includes Emma Corrin, Matthew Macfadyen, and Morena Baccarin, among others.
After Marvel’s box office flop last year, “Deadpool & Wolverine” is already shaping up to be a big hit for the studio. The sequel will be the MCU’s first R-rated film. For the opening weekend With a box office haul in the $165 million range, it will not only be the biggest debut of 2024 so far, but also the best start ever for an R-rated film.
