Officially, the new Samsung foldable smartphone will be available on Wednesday, July 24, but pre-orders may start shipping a few days earlier. This is pretty much your last chance to grab some pre-order perks for the two new Galaxy Z smartphones.
The 512GB model of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 is $1,800 (with a free storage upgrade). Samsung is offering trade-in credits of up to $1,200. The Z Fold5 is $1,200, the Z Fold4 is $1,000, and the Z Fold3 is $900. If you’re switching from an older Ultra, for example, the S24 Ultra is $900 and the S23 Ultra is $800.
If you don’t want to trade in your phone, Amazon is also selling the 512GB model of the Galaxy Z Fold6 for $1,800, but it’s bundled with a $300 Amazon gift card.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 (512GB) is down to $1,000 with a $100 instant credit and free storage upgrade. Trade-in value is capped at $650 and can be used on an S24 Ultra, Z Flip5, or Z Fold5. The older Z Flip4 can be traded in for $550, and the Z Flip3 for $450.
The Galaxy Z Flip6 (512GB) is on sale for $1,100 on Amazon, but it comes with a $200 Amazon gift card, so if you’re not trading in your old phone, your effective price could be lower than what Samsung is offering.
If folding isn’t your thing, you can get the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (12/512GB) for the same price as the Flip ($1,100). The Ultra comes with an S Pen, a much better camera, and better battery life and faster charging. The downside is that the S24 Ultra is a much larger device.
You can also buy the Galaxy S24+, which has a camera comparable to the Z Flip6 and Z Fold6 but is a cheaper phone with a better battery.
I’m in the mood for some gaming, so let’s see what’s available. The Viture One XR glasses are compact, portable glasses with a 120″ virtual display. They come with a single 1080p @ 60fps display per eye, myopia adjustment, and an electrochromic film that darkens the glasses to prevent distractions.
Just connect these to a compatible phone with a USB-C cable and the DeX interface will appear on the Galaxy Z Fold6 and two S24 models (note: the Z Flip6 doesn’t support video output). They also work with the iPhone 15, as well as devices like Steam Deck and ROG Ally. Note that this offer requires a Prime subscription.
Glasses are great for traveling, but at home the 34-inch Samsung Odyssey G85SB monitor is a better choice. This curved 3,440 x 1,440 pixel QD-OLED display runs at 175Hz (0.03ms response time) and supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. The monitor has a Gaming Hub that can handle game streaming (Xbox, Nvidia, etc.) without needing a PC/console connected. It’s also a smart TV, so you get all the usual Tizen features as well.
If you want to use your current TV but it doesn’t natively support cloud gaming, you can access Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Streaming with the $30 Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K. Note that you’ll need a compatible controller.
An Xbox controller will do the trick (even for gaming with Viture glasses). But check out the Asus ROG Raikiri Pro. It’s like a Swiss Army knife. It supports three modes: wired via USB-C, wireless via Bluetooth, and wireless via 2.4GHz RF. It has a built-in OLED display to help you switch profiles, and you can remap and customize the buttons. It also has a 3.5mm headphone jack with ESS DAC so you can connect wired headphones.
