Believe it or not, today Fire Emblem: Three Houses It was released on the Switch. SRPG fans will have already completed it at this point. Furthermore, Fire Emblem EngageIt’s now been a little over a year.
Despite being from the same series, anyone who’s played the two latest titles will have noticed the striking differences. Three Houses (let’s not forget that this is the series’ first console release in over a decade) strikes a bold new direction with a game as tied to the appeal of social simulation as it is to tactical combat. All of the turn-based shenanigans are still there, save for the removal of the iconic weapon triangle, but in between there’s a plethora of drama, romance and everyday life activities packed in to make the overall experience a little different. Nice, but different.
Engage, on the other hand, is a completely different story. After seeing the lovey-dovey success of Three Houses four years ago, it’s fair to assume Intelligent Systems would bring back something similar. But this was a return to the series’ roots: the weapon triangle returned, interpersonal dialogue was reduced, and the focus was firmly back on combat.
In fact, the two games are so different in tone that it’s hard to say for sure which one is better. BetterIn a review by Nintendo Life, both games received a rating of 9/10. Three Houses And our Engage And like cheese and chocolate, we’d be hard-pressed to decide for more than two minutes that one is significantly better than the other. The better question is, which one would you choose? prefer?
