Nutrition can be the key to preventing disease and even fatal conditions like cancer.

That’s according to doctors like Dr. Frank Dumont, an internist and executive medical director of Virta Health, a Colorado group that focuses on metabolic health through diet.

In an on-camera interview with Fox News Digital, Dumont shared what Americans are experiencing. increase in obesitythe rise in diabetes, autoimmune diseases, and cancer over the past few decades “probably has a lot to do with our lifestyles.”

Want to improve your heart health? Heart surgeons say start by addressing your weakest link

“We know that food is a big part of…our My eating habits have changed “It’s changed dramatically over the past few decades,” he says, adding, “Many of the foods we eat are much more processed. They contain much more simple carbohydrates and monosaccharides than they used to.”

These foods are associated with increased insulin and inflammation; health complicationswarned Dumont. To lower the risk of chronic disease, he recommends people make these simple changes:

“It depends on the individual circumstances,” he said. “The more you know about your body, the better you can make decisions and make these exchanges.”

To achieve your goal of consuming more fiber and natural products, Dumont recommends eating real fruit instead of drinking highly processed fruit juices.

Mediterranean diet combined with other lifestyle changes reduces diabetes risk

“Fruit juice has some benefits and contains minerals, vitamins and micronutrients, but the bottom line is that it’s more processed and a lot of the fiber you’re supposed to get along with the fructose has been removed,” he said.

Dumont added that he doesn’t believe in “demonizing” fruit, as it has come under scrutiny for its high sugar content.

“Fruits have a lot of health benefits,” he said. “It depends on the person’s personal metabolism. If someone is very sick metabolically; insulin resistance …Even the most healthy fruit can be more than your body can handle. ”

“But the great thing about fruit, for most people, especially early-stage people who don’t have a metabolic disease, is that it actually packs all of its sugar into the fiber.”

to make this small exchangeAccording to Dumont, even fast food restaurants can improve your overall health.

Choosing a chicken salad will result in a more balanced meal than choosing a carbohydrate-heavy option like a breaded chicken sandwich.

Doctors recommend choosing grilled chicken instead of fried and breaded chicken.

“If you put this on top of lettuce with a healthy dressing, it’s actually very healthy to eat on the go. fast food restaurant” he said.

Dumont said he has seen many patients lose the battle against chronic disease with treatment alone. using medicine.

“I was seeing people getting worse and worse, and that was really discouraging to me,” he said. “What I discovered late in my career is the power of nutrition and lifestyle. And, to be honest, I’ve been trained to be pessimistic about it.”

Dumont said his training taught him that patients rarely last. healthy lifestyle changesand says that transition to medicines and treatments should be encouraged “quickly”.

“It turns out that’s not true,” he said. “If we give people the right information and they can do it, we can help them do it in a way that is actually fun and doable for them.”

“The power exceeded the power of the drugs I was using.”

“I’ve worked with patients who feel like everything they’ve tried has failed,” Dumont said. improve healthAnd suddenly I feel empowered to say, “I listen to my body.” I learn from my body, I know what works for my body, and look what I’ve achieved. ”

“It’s night and day,” he said. “And I’m feeling very optimistic about that right now.”
