Nominees for the 76th Emmy Awards, television’s highest honor, were announced Wednesday morning, much to the delight of “The Bear.”
The hit FX series, set in a Chicago sandwich shop, received 23 nominations this year, breaking the previous record of 22 set by NBC hit “30 Rock” in 2009.
In the drama category, “Shogun” received the most nominations It’s 25 this year.
The all-time record for nominations, with 32, has been held by HBO’s “Game of Thrones” since 2016. HBO is owned by CNN’s parent company.
While some popular shows from the past, such as “Succession” and “Ted Lasso,” were not nominated this year, “The Crown,” “The Morning Show” and “Only Murder in the Building” received multiple nominations, becoming new “legacy shows.”
Sheryl Lee Ralph and Tony Hale announced this year’s nominees, and Television Academy president Kris Abrego broke the news that Ralph was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance in “Abbott Elementary.”
Ralph won the division in 2022.
The 76th annual Emmy Awards ceremony will air on ABC on Sunday, September 15 at 8pm ET/5pm PT and will be available to stream on Hulu the following day.
