Two Georgia football players were arrested this week on charges of reckless driving, according to police records.
Star Senior Linebacker Smael Mondon Jr. He was arrested by Athens-Clarke County Police late Wednesday night on misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and racing on a highway or street. He was released on bail shortly thereafter early Thursday morning.
Redshirt freshman offensive lineman Bo Furey He was arrested Tuesday night by University of Georgia police on misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and failure to maintain lane/improper operation of roadway. He was released on bail Tuesday night.
The Georgia athletic department declined to comment Thursday but plans to address the incident at SEC media days in Dallas next week.
The two arrests this week add to a string of reckless driving and other traffic-related incidents within the Georgia football team, including several car crashes. Player Devin Willock and team staff member Chandler LeCroy were killed. In January 2023, Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle and former Bulldog Jalen Carter was charged with street racing in connection with the fatal accident. He pleaded no contest and received no prison time. He was charged with two misdemeanor counts of racing and reckless driving.
For several months after the accident, the receiver Denylon Morissette and Marcus Rosemie Jacksan Morissette was arrested on suspicion of driving. On Wednesday, Etienne reached a plea deal to dismiss the DUI charge and pleaded no contest to the reckless driving charge.

“Everybody wants to know what the penalties are. The players know what the penalties are, and it’s important that they acknowledge and understand them, but I want to provide some more education and make sure the players understand,” Smart said after the fatal accident at the SEC spring meetings last May.
Georgia State President Jere Morehead said at the time he supported Smart and knew the football coach was “working through it.”
“But I leave it up to him to decide what he will or will not say publicly,” Morehead said. “I trust his judgment in that regard.”
