Helldivers 2 August will see the game’s biggest update yet, bringing increased difficulty, more mission variety, and more.
The name of the update that will be released on August 6th is “Escalation of Freedom”. For more information, PlayStation Blog From Katherine Baskin, social media and community manager at developer Arrowhead.
The update will also add new enemy types, including some popular enemies from the first game, and take steps to mitigate the Grief Kick issue.
Fittingly, the update will introduce a new high difficulty level for Helldiving: Combat Rating 10. “Super Helldive is our most challenging, most unforgiving dive difficulty yet, and we hope it will provide players with the tension they’re looking for on the battlefield – and with greater challenges come greater rewards,” Baskin said in the blog.
New mission objectives and larger enemy outposts have also been added, along with new Super Sample rewards. Mission objectives are now available on other difficulties, not just CR 10.
Up next will be new enemies, including the giant tentacled Impaler from the original Helldivers, and new Spore Chargers, which resemble regular Chargers but are shrouded in mist, as well as the Terminid Alpha Commander, a supercharged version of the Brood Commander.
When it comes to automatons, new bots will be introduced, including the powerful Rocket Tank.
The marsh also changes completely, becoming foggy, the trees turning black and taking on a ghostly atmosphere.
Finally, Arrowhead is trying to address “grief kicks,” where some players use team kicks to torment other players.
In this update, the developers are introducing a new system where a kicked player will be spawned into a new session as the host with all the loot from their previous session intact, while players from the previous session will receive a message in their chat widget.
“These changes ensure that all players can keep all of the loot they earned in missions, so no Helldiver loses out,” Baskin said. “We are committed to making changes that improve the player experience and promote healthy, cooperative gameplay.”
The social menu will also be getting a major overhaul to make playing with friends easier.
