about
Welcome to Escalation of Freedom, Helldivers! We’ve spent time gathering feedback from players on the front lines to increase the variety of content. From missions and objectives to enemies and planets, we’re bringing lots of new content to both veteran players and Helldivers new to the battlefield. Get ready for our biggest update yet!
Our community continues to show us how strong we can be when united against the threat of mindless automatons and Terminids. As we stand here on the eve of Escalation of Freedom, reflecting on the six months since launch, we could never have predicted how far the game would go, or how many of our citizens would answer the call of Super Earth.
We’ve watched our troops expertly handle every clash and challenge we threw at them, from flying enemies to Terminoid Control Systems to rescuing children from Super Citizen Anne’s Hospital, and with this major update, it’s time to give back to the community in a big way and welcome even more players. Helldiver universe.
Helldiver, things are going wrong fast.
Let’s go on a super hell dive
— Take on a new massive bot fortress.
What continues to amaze us is our players’ insatiable appetite for bugs, bots, liberation and destruction. We thought a difficulty level of 9 was enough for Helldiving, but Escalation of Freedom raises it to 10… that is, a combat rating of 10.
CR 10: Super Helldive is our most challenging and unforgiving dive difficulty yet. We hope it will give players the tension they’re looking for on the battlefield, and with greater challenge comes greater reward.
—During larva recovery missions, Helldivers will care for the bugs.
But new difficulty levels aren’t the only thing the community wanted: we also heard your calls for mission variety, so we’re introducing new mission objectives and bigger enemy outposts for both bots and bugs, with all-new super-sample rewards. These outposts are heavily fortified, and players will need to work together and strategize to destroy them.
if you Helldivers IIMany of the new mission objectives are also playable on other difficulty levels, so you don’t have to worry about missing out on all the fun until you unlock Super Helldive.
New enemies and dangerous swamps
—The Impaler is back!
The Escalation of Freedom is unleashing new threats to our liberties that will require serious strategy from the Helldivers to defeat.
By popular demand, the Impaler is back. This big guy from the original Helldivers brings a whole new challenge. With the Impaler, there’s no escaping the bugs – he’s big, intimidating and devastating, and you’ll have to deal with him.
The latest addition to the Terminid family is the Spore Charger. As if regular Chargers weren’t scary enough, the Spore Charger is shrouded in mist, making its location unknown until it is in close proximity to a Helldiver.
—New spore charger in the mist.
Finally, the Terminid Alpha Commander is a supercharged Brood Commander that is bigger, more ferocious, and won’t hesitate to call other bugs to his aid.
— You thought regular Brood Commander was bad? Think again.
And don’t think we’ve forgotten about the automatons, we’ve also increased their numbers, adding the powerful rocket tank, as well as some other surprise bots.
—The automaton rebellion continues.
Explore the swamp, but this time it’s different: fog rolls in, wild plants grow thick, blackened trees block the light, and the air feels eerie. Visibility is limited and light is at a premium, so keep a flashlight close by; enemies could be hiding anywhere in the undergrowth.
— Be afraid, Helldivers.
Under the hood
The final thing I want to highlight about the Escalation of Freedom update is that we’re making some changes to help mitigate the issues that grief can cause. Helldivers IIWhile we expect players to participate in the game in good faith and with good sportsmanship, we also recognize that some players may utilize Team Kick to harass other players.
To improve this, we’ve implemented a system where if a player is kicked, they will spawn into a new session as the host with all of their team’s loot from the previous session, allowing the player to pick up all their items before escaping. The team that kicked them will see a message in their chat widget that the player has been kicked, but their loot will remain unchanged.
These changes allow all players to keep all the loot they earned in missions, so no Helldiver is left out. We want to improve the player experience and keep it healthy and safe. Cooperative gamesplay.
In addition to this, Escalation of Freedom will also be releasing other quality of life upgrades, including a major overhaul of the social menu to make diving with friends easier.
Overall, we think this Escalation is packed with great additions, long-awaited improvements, and a ton of surprises. Helldivers II: Escalation of Freedom It will be released on August 6th!
