Twins are known for their similarities and strong bond. However, one of the most unique and remarkable things about twins is Their differencesA study published in . Science Direct The results revealed that, despite the many similarities between identical twins, there are also significant differences. A pair of identical female twins raised separately in South Korea and the United States. Further analysis revealed several differences in IQ and development. The study aimed to understand the ongoing “nature versus nurture debate.” IFL Science.

The twins were born in South Korea in 1974 and lived together until they were two years old. Unfortunately, Separated One of the twin sisters who got lost in a market has gone missing despite the efforts of her parents. One of the sisters grew up in South Korea, while the other was adopted by an American couple and has lived separately ever since. Identical twins The twins also had a brother and sister, and the woman discovered she was a twin after submitting her DNA to a family reunion program in South Korea.

Despite being identical twins, the twins showed differences due to the differences in their upbringing and environment. The twins were given a series of tests to evaluate their personality, mental development, etc., and the results were clear. The sisters who grew up in the United States had an IQ 16 points lower than their Korean brothers. This case is surprising, as previous studies have revealed that the IQ difference between identical twins is usually less than 7 points. Differences and similarities in intelligence, reasoning, values, etc. were observed between the sisters.

The distinct characteristics of the twins intrigued the researchers. One researcher said, “It is surprising to find such large differences in twins’ cognitive abilities that are associated with strong genetic influences.” The study considered that the twin who grew up in the United States had suffered a concussion as a child, which may have contributed to her lower IQ. However, the differences in their upbringing highlight the unique abilities that identical twins can have. The researchers also noted that many characteristics were similar despite their different environments and upbringings.

“Notably, both twins were significantly higher in conscientiousness, indicating that they were both purposeful, organized, committed, and achievement-oriented,” one of the researchers wrote. An example was also shared to illustrate the same: the twin who grew up in Korea was blessed with a more loving, caring, and healthy family, while the other faced difficulties with his adoptive parents and foster parents. The latter is enough to bring about various differences in the status of each twin, but the scores on self-esteem and mental health were similar. In conclusion, the authenticity of the similarities between identical twins is remarkable and opens up great avenues for further exploration.
