Pakistani court acquits former prime minister Imran Khan A day after his party won a majority of the reserved seats in the Supreme Court, he filed charges against him and his wife of illegal marriage.

Syed Zulfi Bukhari, Imran Khan’s adviser on international affairs and media, said: “Not only has the court dismissed the case, but the judge has also ordered the immediate release of Imran Khan and his wife.”

Bukhari said there was not a single pending case to keep Khan in jail. Imran Khan Pakistan The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party called for the immediate release of Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi.

Khan and Bibi election In February, a local court in Pakistan found the couple guilty of violating Islamic law and failing to observe the time frame set between Bibi’s divorce and marriage.

Khan has been jailed since August last year after being convicted in four major cases, including illegal marriage and alleged leaking of state secrets. He has either been acquitted or released on bail in all cases.

Khan’s supporters and aides celebrated his acquittal on illegal marriage charges, known as the Iddat case, hoping it would pave the way for his release. But minutes after Khan’s acquittal, local media reported that a Pakistani anti-terrorism court had issued a written order for him to be arrested and questioned in a case related to the May 9 riots that occurred during his arrest last year.

Soon after his arrest, Violence broke out all over the country In Pakistan, Khan’s supporters have attacked military installations and buildings in protest, and he has been accused of masterminding the unrest.

Bukhari said: “Now, all of a sudden, we are hearing that Mr Khan has to be questioned in a case related to the May 9 riots and his wife in a corruption case. This is a mockery of the judiciary but we know that these spurious cases will not hold up in court.”

“While the courts are releasing Imran Khan, the regime and military authorities are filing one fake case after another to send him to jail. Why were these cases not filed?”

Khan is Pakistan’s powerful army Pakistan’s top brass is said to have a personal grudge against him and ordered his arrest. Pakistan has been ruled by a military dictatorship for decades and the powerful army still plays a major role in politics.

Fawad Chaudhry, a former information minister and former close aide to Khan, said Khan was in jail for political activism, not criminal activity.

“[The] Imran Khan’s arrest [a] continuation [a] “It is a political vendetta against Pakistan’s most popular political leader,” Chaudhry said, adding, “The authorities are afraid to release Imran Khan.” [a] A series of fake criminal cases have been orchestrated to keep him in prison.”

Political analyst and author Zahid Hussain said Khan’s acquittal was highly expected as the Iddat case was baseless and had no legal basis.

Hussain said: “The military does not want Khan to leave prison and it was also expected that he would be arrested in another trumped up case. However, as we saw yesterday in the key seat reservation case, it will not be easy for the military to keep Khan in prison for long as the judiciary is asserting itself and pressure from the military and government is not working.”
