Game instability issues with Intel’s 14th and 13th Gen CPUs are starting to plague game developers, with the team at Alderon Games revealing their troubling experiences using these chips.
Gaming instability issues with Intel’s 14th and 13th Gen CPUs have created new problems in the market, with consumers starting to choose alternatives like AMD Ryzen
Intel has struggled with its market-dominant 14th and 13th generation consumer CPUs, which have been heavily plagued by instability issues.
Recent reports have revealed how Intel is currently Rejecting a processor’s RMA request Even if they were to comply with the terms of use, it would not be good for the company’s reputation at all. Moreover, Intel’s CPUs are more prone to game errors and various failures than competitors such as AMD, which not only puts the company’s market share at risk, but also Arrow Lake S Seriesyou may be at risk.
Another incident was the revelation of Intel’s instability problems. Alderon Gamesthe studio behind the multiplayer dinosaur survival game Path of Titans. Studio founder Matthew Cassells said that despite implementing all of the fixes recommended by Intel, the issue persists. The five main areas where CPU failures occur are:
- End Customer: Our crash reporting tool has seen thousands of crashes on 13th and 14th generation Intel CPUs.
- Official Dedicated Game Servers: There are frequent crashes that take the whole server down.
- Development team: Developers using these CPUs frequently face instability while building and working on their games, and it can also cause SSD and memory corruption.
- Game Server Providers: Hosting a community server that has ongoing crashing issues.
- Benchmarking Tools: Decompression and memory tests unrelated to Path of Titans also fail.
Interestingly, Alderon Games has witnessed a staggering 100% failure rate in their testing, stating that Intel CPUs degrade over time, resulting in a significant drop in performance. To mitigate this issue, Alderon Games has fully switched their servers over to AMD, which the company says will “result in 100x fewer crashes.” This is certainly not good news for Intel, and with the problem now extending into the professional sector of the market, Team Blue needs to find a solution quickly.
- Server Migration: We are switching all our servers over to AMD, which crashes 100 times less often than the flawed Intel CPUs.
- Hosting Recommendations: Anyone hosting a Path of Titans server or selling game servers is advised to avoid purchasing or using 13th and 14th generation Intel CPUs.
- In-game notifications: We will be adding a popup message in-game to inform users with these processors about the issue. Currently, many users are unaware of why the game is crashing and what to do about it.
Apart from that, Alderon Games has also advised users to avoid purchasing Intel’s 14th and 13th generation CPUs. To inform users about the issue, the company has decided to enable an in-game notification for general users. We hope that Intel will come up with a solution as soon as possible, either in the form of a CPU recall or a mitigation that will completely resolve the issue.
