Kansas has joined nearly 20 other US states in the report A rise in measles.
Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has reported 10 cases of measles throughout the Grant, Morton and Stevens counties as of March 21.
All 10 cases were identified in children ages 0-17.
Nine of these children were not vaccinated.

One individual has been confirmed to be undervaccinated and only one of two has received it MMR vaccine dose.
No hospitalizations or deaths have been reported in the state.

Kdhe noted that measles is “highly contagious” especially for those who have not been vaccinated, and that additional cases are “highly likely” in the outbreak area and surrounding counties.
Measles infections continue to spread throughout the US as the CDC recorded a total of 378 cases in 2025 on March 21st.
As of March 25th, the largest outbreak currently has 327 confirmed cases.

Most often, it occurs in school-age children who have not been vaccinated nationwide.
KDHE advised healthcare providers to be aware of patients with “fellative rash diseases” and other symptoms of measles, including fever, cough, runny nose, red, watery eyes, and facial and body rashes.

Healthcare professionals should also be on “high vigilance” for patients who have recently traveled internationally, or for patients who have frequently come into contact with or are in frequent contact with unvaccinated individuals in the event of an outbreak.
KDHE instructed suspected patients to isolate themselves at home for four days after the onset of measles rash.

“People who are susceptible to measles and exposed should be excluded from working in an adult care facility, correctional facility, or medical facility and attending or working in school, childcare facilities, or adult day care for the 21 days after the last exposure,” the Health Department said.

To prevent measles, KDHE recommends two doses of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccines, especially for residents of affected counties, for adults and children.
In a recent camera interview with Fox News Digital in New York City, Dr. John Whyte, chief medical officer and practitioner at WebMD, stressed that measles is “one of the most infectious respiratory viruses.”

“Measles is much more contagious than COVID,” he said. “It’s a factor that’s several times more contagious.”
According to White, one infected person could shock others to around 10-15 people.

There are multiple ways to protect yourself from infection, and doctors will include recognizing your surroundings and wearing a mask in the area where cases are detected.
White also recommends “good hand washing” after touching the surface, keeping the surface clean as it can stick and spread when contacted.
