Katy Perry’s new single is out, but some fans aren’t buying into the newest generation of pop stars.

Since the release of “Smile” in 2020, Perry’s fans have taken to social media, eager to see her back in the spotlight. But promoting her latest single, “Woman’s World,” which was released on Thursday, has been difficult.

The song has been billed as an anthem for female empowerment, with visuals paying homage to Rosie the Riveter and lyrics such as, “It’s a woman’s world, you’re lucky to live in it.” In the music video, Perry can also be seen holding a vibrator, shiny power tools and a bottle that reads, “Whiskey for the ladies.” Controversial influencer Trisha Paytas makes a cameo appearance in the video, where she is seen driving Perry around in a monster truck.

Perry’s fans, who call themselves “Katy Cats,” were full of praise for the singer in the comments section after the video was released, but as she promoted the single and her upcoming album last month, Perry’s own politics and industry connections have come under fire online.

The former “American Idol” judge has previously addressed female empowerment in hits like “Roar,” but the pop artist’s message is… Women’s rights in the United States continue to be under threat.
