It’s always a bit sad when a story is so clearly laid out in the live game but poor performance prevents it from happening – it’s a shame we didn’t get to see the Kree invasion in Marvel’s Avengers with the addition of Captain Marvel and She-Hulk, but what about now? Suicide Squad: Defeat the Justice League With the start of season two, what was planned is starting to come together.
To begin with, a big backlash against the game’s concept was that Suicide Squad killed off the Justice League, a Braniac-corrupted version of iconic heroes who needed to die, including, unfortunately, Batman from the Arkham trilogy, who was executed by Harley Quinn.
The plot twist begins. Spoiler alert.
At the end of the first part of season 2, Branaik’s latest kills revealed that the Flash is actually alive – the real Flash, who didn’t fight and kill the original Justice League, but is actually a clone of the Justice League, with the real version seemingly in captivity.
So, the previous rumors have been confirmed and the live part of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is now about saving the Justice League.
This timeline is still unknown. There are supposed to be three clone/mirror heroes in it: Green Lantern, Superman, and Batman. But if you kill the clones, did The only one who actually appears to die is the uncorrupted version of Wonder Woman, who is killed by a clone Superman. So, that’s not very good.
This also opens an interesting door: if Batman does return and the story is already pre-recorded, we may hear more from the late Kevin Conroy as a non-villain freed from Braniac’s clutches. Conroy’s final project was supposed to be the latest animated film, Justice League, but I think we may get to hear more of him in this live Suicide Squad content.
I like this idea, but there are a few problems with it. First, this storyline shouldn’t start in Season 2 of the live game. The main game needs to have Ended Despite clear instructions that we were going to save the real JLA, we were instead told that we needed to kill 13 more Braniacs on other worlds, which just seemed exhausting. The Joker content in season one seemed completely unrelated to the main storyline, it never even started, and at best there were only the barest hints at it.
Another problem is that this storyline is almost certain not to play out as originally intended. Suicide Squad is calling it the final content of the year, but that’s it. Cramming this entire concept into a few more cutscenes just doesn’t work. The launch of Season 2 caused Steam players to “skyrocket” from 250 to 570. No matter how interesting this is going to play out, no one is watching.
Oh, what could have happened.
