iHeartMedia Pittsburgh announced today that Rob King, a member of the Steelers Audio Network pre-game and post-game broadcast team since 2014, has been named play-by-play announcer for the team’s game audio broadcasts.

King, a nearly 25-year veteran of Pittsburgh sports media, succeeds Bill Hillgrove, who retired earlier this year after serving in the role for the past 30 seasons. He will join color analyst Craig Wolfley in the broadcast booth.

“Following the retirement of longtime play-by-play announcer Bill Hillgrove earlier this year, we are excited to announce that Rob King will assume the role of play-by-play announcer for the Steelers starting this season,” said Steelers team president Art Rooney II. “Rob has done an outstanding job in the Pittsburgh market over his 25-year career and is highly respected by his industry colleagues. We are excited to share with Steelers Nation his unique perspective and the excitement he brings to make fans feel like they’re in the stadium watching the game on the field. He has a big role ahead of him as he follows in the footsteps of some legendary announcers who have preceded him, and we are thrilled to have Rob in his new role bringing Steelers football to fans around the world.”

“Rob King has been a valued member of our Steelers game coverage team for over a decade,” said Tim McAleer, market president, iHeartMedia Pittsburgh. “We’re thrilled he’ll be bringing his passion for game coverage to the booth and creating an exciting radio broadcast for our viewers.”

King has held numerous key roles throughout his career in both the professional and collegiate sectors in the Pittsburgh market, and he will continue to be a key contributor to both the Steelers Audio Network and the broader Steelers Media Network, which includes video and audio content published across the team’s various content platforms.

“The Steelers hold a special place in our region and across the nation,” King said. “I’d like to thank Art Rooney II, the Steelers and iHeartMedia for this incredible opportunity to play a meaningful role with one of the greatest organizations in professional sports. I look forward to getting to work, doing a great job and bringing the excitement of the game to people all around the world. I couldn’t be more excited.”

iHeartMedia is the leading media outlet in the Pittsburgh market with multiple platforms including broadcast stations, live events, data, digital business, mobile, social and its own iHeartRadio. iHeartRadio, iHeartMedia’s free, all-in-one digital music, podcasting and live streaming radio service, is available across more than 500 platforms and 2,000 devices, including smart speakers, digital car dashboards, tablets, wearables, smartphones, virtual assistants, televisions and game consoles.

Fans can access the “Steelers Audio Network” and its programming year-round across a variety of platforms, including 102.5 WDVE, Fox Sports Pittsburgh (970AM), Steelers Nation Radio, the Steelers mobile app, iHeartRadio mobile app and team and station websites.
