Square Enix has announced that Kingdom Hearts IV, the next entry in the long-standing Disney RPG series, is under development. The news was delivered as part of the 20th Anniversary event and included the release of the first trailer available below.
Kingdom Hearts IV launches a new franchise storyline, the Lost Master Ark. As you can see in the trailer and screenshots, Sora is back, but he has a new look. The KHIV part of the trailer starts around the 4:05 mark.
The trailer introduces some short glimpses of gameplay as Sora confronts a giant shadow monster in the middle of the city streets. This new location is Quadratam, which Square Enix describes in Kingdom Hearts as “a large, vast city set in a gorgeous and realistic world never seen before.”
No details about Quadratum or the overall gameplay or story were shared. Both Donald and Goofy will return to KHIV, and a new “mysterious” new character named Strelitzia will also be introduced.
Kingdom Hearts 3 was finally released for PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch, the latter was a cloud streaming version, but nothing was announced about the platforms available for KHIV. Similarly, the release date is not shared.
Square Enix, along with the words of the next core entry in the series, used an anniversary event to announce a new mobile game for iOS and Android called Kingdom Hearts Missing Link. This can also be seen in the trailer montage above.
