The ESRB: The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom While classifications can sometimes provide some insight, this classification seems to provide more insight than usual by confirming that the heroes of Hyrule are playable characters.
Yes, the famous swordsman has been “stolen,” like many others in the land of Hyrule, but it appears players will be able to control Link in some way. The title has an ESRB rating of “E10+” (ages 10 and up), and it also states that Echoes of Wisdom contains “fantasy violence,” as well as allowing players to use Link’s weapons, including swords and arrows, to defeat foes.
“It’s an adventure game in which players take on the role of Zelda, attempting to resolve rifts throughout Hyrule and rescue Link. From a 3/4 overhead perspective, players will explore different environments and battle stylized enemies (humans, creatures, etc.). As Link, players use swords and arrows to defeat enemies.; Zelda can use her magic staff to summon creatures for combat (wind-up knights, pig soldiers, slimes, etc.). Some enemies can be defeated by setting them on fire, while other creatures disappear into a mist when defeated. Combat scenes are somewhat frenetic, with multiple enemies attacking/fighting simultaneously.”
As you can see, the same description also details some of Zelda’s abilities in the game, including a “magic staff” that summons creatures during combat. This staff is actually called the “Tri-Rod” in the game, and Zelda teams up with a mysterious new fairy friend, Tri.
It’s not yet clear when or how often this will happen in the new Zelda game, if at all, especially since it seems like you might be able to control Link. Opening of the gameFor more information on this upcoming Switch title, check out Nintendo Life’s previous article.
