last week, fall out Fans are basically large Fallout: London Mods. Now, more mods are being made for game-wide fan projects. One mod is trying to bring back some American sensibility to the franchise, and it’s been shipped across the ocean. Fallout: LondonThe names of football items found in the game soccer Ball. This is a small and harmless change, so of course, Nexus Mods‘ Page has turned into a war.
The title of the mod by user GrumpyOldNord is “What Else Is There?” That is a soccer ballUploaded on July 26th. Fallout: LondonUpon its release, the description summed up the mod: “Are you an American exploring London for the first time and feeling a bit overwhelmed by the language? Not to worry! The soccer ball has been appropriately renamed to avoid confusion with a real soccer ball.” The recent 1.1 update changed the soccer kit outfit to a soccer uniform. Discussion Area The Nexus Mods page describes it as “restoring immersion.”
But Brits have discovered the mod and are expressing their disdain for the blasphemous change. “Well, blame this mod for breaking the immersion,” one angry commenter fires back. “But Americans always think they’re right about what they say, and we know the rest of the world is right.” That’s a pretty tame response compared to what else can be found about the mod. “Reporting this mod as terrorist is totally vile. You deserve to be shackled for 2 weeks,” wrote another irate customer. The extra “u” in “behavior” tells us this is an angry Brit.
But what’s most surprising is how the conversation has turned into a full-blown history lesson on what the hell the sport of soccer (or football, as some people think it’s sometimes called) is. I don’t know much about the sport, but just reading the comments has made me feel like I’m getting a crash course. For example, as one commenter points out in a lengthy post, did you know that soccer was actually the name the sport was called in England when it was brought to America? Apparently it comes from “association,” a slang term for association football created at Oxford University. The post goes on to explain how rugby and football have evolved over time: American Football All of this also plays into the story, but I won’t tell you all about it – there are currently 9 pages of commentary on the mod, many of which go into the minutiae of the sport.
Of course, It’s A Soccer Ball is ultimately a big joke. The mod itself is tagged as both “horror” and “humor, joke, or just plain fun.” It’s a silly thing that no one should take seriously, but someone should probably mention it in the comments.
