Deadpool & Wolverine is being positioned as a cameo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), but not everything Marvel Studios has told fans about the team-up film has turned out to be true.
This was according to executive producer Wendy Jacobson, who hinted in the interview that there may be more surprises in store for fans. Game Radar+Fans have been scrutinizing the details for connections to the overall MCU plot or hints at further crossovers with the existing X-Men universe, but it turns out some of that effort may have been in vain.
The producer said Marvel went to great lengths to keep some of its best surprises a secret, explaining, “There may or may not have been some subterfuge or misleading information used online or in person to keep it secret.”
The comments are sure to send internet sleuths into a frenzy as they question what we’ve learned about Deadpool and Wolverine over the past few years, with one particularly questionable example being Vinnie Jones’ Juggernaut. Other characters likely to appear include Lady Deadpool and Cowboy DeadpoolMany believe the former will be played by Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds’ real-life wife, although fans had previously speculated that the role might be played by Taylor Swift. Entertainment Weekly reported The singer did not make a cameo appearance in the movie.James Marsden’s Cyclops, Professor Xand Jennifer Garner’s Electra These are just some of the other characters fans have their eye on as possible Deadpool and Wolverine cameo candidates.
Jacobson stopped short of spoiling any surprises, but he did promise that every character introduced in this week’s MCU releases will play a key role in the story.
“I can’t say for sure if there were any cameos in the film, but in terms of characters that may or may not be in the film, it was always important to us that we didn’t make the film feel like a gimmick,” Jacobson says. “Everyone who’s in it has an important narrative purpose, or a beginning, middle and end to their character arc. It was definitely a collaborative effort to figure out who fit and who didn’t.”
Deadpool & Wolverine used a clever tactic to maintain the surprise ahead of its premiere this week, but it’s not the first Marvel movie to disappoint fans. Spider-Man: No Way Home is the first MCU movie to do so. He completely lied to fans about a particular cameo.This doesn’t mean that Deadpool 3 will feature the same level of shocking reveals as the 2021 film, but it’s clear that Marvel is getting better at keeping secrets at this point.
