Maryland confirmed first Measles case A Howard County resident who traveled internationally recently.

The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) released a positive case in a news release on Sunday. It was also confirmed by the Virginia Department of Health and Howard County Health Authority.

This case is not associated Outbreak In Texas or New Mexico, the Health Department confirmed.

Authorities want to identify people who may have been exposed during their trip at specific times and locations below:

Florida warns first measles cases of the year in public schools as experts highlight vaccination

MDH urged residents to check these exposure times, monitor for rising symptoms and stay up to date Vaccination included.

“If you’re not vaccinated, there’s a 90% chance you’ll get it and step into the room where someone with measles was two hours ago,” he warned.

The best way to prevent measles is to receive two doses of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and various experts.

“People who have not been vaccinated or are not immune to measles. Those who were in any of these locations during the possible exposure times should monitor themselves for early symptoms of measles 21 days after potential exposure,” the department said.

“People who develop fever or other symptoms of measles should not leave in childcare, school, work or public places. Medical workers; Medical institutions. They should call their healthcare provider first, rather than appearing in waiting rooms or emergency rooms, so that the office can take steps to prevent spreading to other patients. ”

Maryland has sporadically occurring measles cases, so we included one case in 2024 and one case from 2020 to 2022.

In Texas, nearly 200 confirmed measles as of Friday, affecting mostly unvaccinated school-age children.
