With several cases from other states amid the ongoing measles outbreak in Texas, doctors have highlighted the importance of community protection.
Measles is “very contagious among unvaccinated individuals,” says Fox News Senior Medical Analyst Dr. Mark Siegel He previously told Fox News Digital.
Siegel said she was concerned about the issue of “community protection vs risk benefits” ahead of an interview with HHS Secretary RFK Jr. on Tuesday.

“That includes how many vaccines are being offered, who is offering them, and how many people are getting them,” he continued.
“I would like to understand ground work in terms of contact tracing isolation, intervention and prevention.”

“Please note that a vaccination rate of about 95% is required for herd immunity (where people who are unable to get vaccinated because they are pregnant or immunodeficiency and are unable to take the live vaccine are protected,” he told Fox News Digital.
“In Texas, it’s currently at 91%, and more bills for further exemptions are in front of the state legislature.”

According to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as of February 27, 2025, a total of 164 measles cases had been reported in Alaska, California, Georgia, Georgia, Kentucky, New York, New York City, Rhode Island and Texas.
There have been three total outbreaks, which have been defined as three or more related cases so far this year.
