The original “Dexter” aired on Showtime from 2006 to 2013, with “Dexter: New Blood” airing in 2021, set 10 years after the original finale. “Resurrection” is a sequel series to “New Blood” set in the present day. It will premiere in the summer of 2025. Additionally, past seasons of both shows will be available on Paramount+ for subscribers of the Paramount+ with Showtime plan.
The original show Climbing the Nielsen Charts Over the past two months, it ranked No. 2 on the Top 10 charts (behind Showtime’s “Your Honor”) the week of June 24 and drew 1.48 billion minutes watched across all platforms, beating popular shows like “The Bear,” “The Boys” and “Bridgerton.”
Hall appeared at a “Dexter: Original Sin” panel in San Diego on Friday, along with showrunner and executive producer Clyde Phillips, executive producer Scott Reynolds and cast members Christian Slater, Patrick Gibson and Molly Brown, which was moderated by guest star Sarah Michelle Gellar.
The 10-episode prequel is set in 1991, 15 years before “Dexter,” and will follow the protagonist’s (Gibson) “transformation from student to vengeful serial killer.” It will premiere on Paramount+ with Showtime in December.
According to the official synopsis, “No longer able to ignore his bloodthirsty urges, Dexter must learn to control the darkness within his heart. Under the tutelage of his father Harry, he adopts a code that allows him to seek out and kill those who deserve to be removed from society, without falling under police scrutiny. This poses an especially daunting challenge for the young Dexter, who has just begun a forensic internship with the Miami Police Department.”
Slater will play Dexter’s father, Harry Morgan, and Brown will play his sister, Debra. Also starring Patrick Dempsey In the series, he plays Aaron Spencer, the chief of Miami Metro’s homicide unit, who has a long-term relationship with Harry. Gellar will play Dexter’s boss. Broadcast on NBC. Additional new cast members include James Martinez, Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu and Reno Wilson.
