Mortal Kombat 1 continues its waterfall of post-launch DLC with a roster of new crossover fighters including Ghostface from Scream, Robert Patrick’s T-1000, and Conan the Barbarian.
Today at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, developer NetherRealm revealed the lineup of six new fighters. In addition to gameplay, we also have first looks at each of the DLC fighters joining the Mortal Kombat 1 lineup. Titled Khaos Reigns, the DLC includes the three aforementioned movie fighters, as well as Noob Saibot, Sektor, and Cyrax. It will release digitally on September 24th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store).
Like many of the characters in Mortal Kombat 1’s alternate universe, Noob Saibot, voiced by Kaiji Tan, has a new look. However, it’s Sektor and Cyrax who see the biggest changes. Netherrealm has revealed that both characters are female in this world. Sektor’s voice actor, Erika Ishii, has also stated that their characters are human this time, rather than robots like in past titles. Cyrax is voiced by Enuka Okuma.
According to publisher Warner Bros. Games, the story setting for Khaos Reigns is as follows:
After fighting off invaders who threatened the fire god Liu Kang’s peaceful new era, Mortal Kombat 1: Chaos Reigns expands the story campaign with an all-new cinematic tale. When a dangerous threat arrives from another timeline, led by the ruthless Titan Havik, whose sole mission is to plunge the realm into chaos, Liu Kang must rally his champions and place his faith in his foes to defeat this grave danger. If they fail, the new era will fall into anarchy.
Joining a growing roster of playable fighters, Kombat Pack 2 features returning combatants Noob Saibot, voiced by Kaiji Tang, Cyrax, voiced by Enuka Okuma, and Sektor, voiced by Erika Ishii. All have their own unique backgrounds as part of the reimagined Mortal Kombat 1 universe. As Sub-Zero, Bi-Han was a ruthless grandmaster of the Lin Kuei, but his soul was stolen by Titan Havik, creating the perfect henchman, Noob Saibot, who is now dedicated to fomenting anarchy. Born into Zaki, one of the Lin Kuei’s many sub-clans, Cyrax became a martial arts prodigy with an independent spirit and an irrepressible desire to serve his clan on its terms, or else. Raised under the tutelage of his parents and immersed in the Lin Kuei culture, Sektor becomes a master armorer, a skilled warrior, and Sub-Zero’s most trusted lieutenant, committed to advancing his clan’s future no matter the cost.
Ghostface is one of those characters that keeps pretty much the same look in every film he appears in, so it’s no surprise that he appears here mostly unchanged. Meanwhile, Terminators come in all shapes and sizes, with NetherRealm using Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character in DLC for Mortal Kombat 11. Patrick provided the voice acting and likeness for Khaos Reigns, with Conan also bringing back Schwarzenegger’s look for another round.
At this time, it’s unclear when each of the fighters in Kombat Pack 2 for Mortal Kombat 1 will be released, as well as when further gameplay will be released and how NetherRealm has chosen to tackle each of the inevitably brutal Fatalities.
Unfortunately, all of the characters in Khaos Reigns Kombat Pack 2 were known a month prior to today’s SDCC announcement. Data Mining LeaksStill, the official announcement gives us a new look at how these characters will be portrayed, with NetherRealm also confirming that longtime Scream actor Roger L. Jackson will voice Ghostface. Arnold Schwarzenegger will not be voicing Conan.
Mortal Kombat 1 Kombat Pack 2 continues the studio’s trend of introducing crossover characters, with the inclusion of Combat Pack 1 Some less-than-super comic book characters were also introduced, like Homelander from The Boys and Omni-Man from Invincible. SDCC is still on, so be sure to keep an eye out for announcements. here.
