Hospital nurses’ association Massachusetts Nurse Association (MNA) told Fox News Digital in a statement that it is actively supporting nurses at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton.

“We recognize that nurses and many other people want immediate information about the situation,” MNA continued. “This urgency comes from a place of concern about the health of nurses, their families and patients. This is the urgency we share.”

The MNA further said it is working on “completing an independent scientific investigation” on the diagnosis.

“The efforts are ongoing and could take a few more weeks,” MNA said. “This investigation is being conducted by the MNA Health and Safety Department, which consists of occupational health nurses, in collaboration with nurses at Newton-Wellsley.”

Additionally, the nurses’ union said it received more than 300 survey responses, emails and calls from current and former nurses and other current and former hospital employees regarding health concerns.

Newton-Wellesely reportedly conducted its own trial in December, and found that by April 11 staff members who had worked on varying degrees at the hospital’s fifth floor were interviewed by the hospital’s Occupational Safety and Health (OHS). boston.com.

The hospital determined that there were five cases. Benign brain tumor According to the memo, six cases were determined to be brain tumors of three different types.

The study “did not find any potential environmental risks associated with brain tumor development,” Associate Chief Medical Officer Jonathan Sonis and Chief Nursing Officer Sandy Muse said in a statement to boston.com.

“Based on these results, we can confidently reassure Mass General Brigham/’s dedicated team members/Newton Wellesley Hospital And all of our patients who have no environmental risks in our facilities said, “The statement continued: “As always, the health and well-being of our staff, clinicians and patients is our absolute top priority.”

The OHS review showed 668 X-rays were run on the fifth floor of Newton Wellesley between 2020 and 2024 on a handheld device, doubled the risk of radiation exposure compared to the usual daily radiation exposure of nurses about 1 metre from the machine, according to boston.com.

“But even if staff were present in all of these x-rays, they would not have absorbed this much of this exposure (i.e., a meter from the machine) because they utilized appropriate x-ray safety technology throughout the hospital,” notes obtained by the outlet state.

The MNA said it was working with the hospital, but said “we only spoke to a small number of nurses and the environmental tests were not comprehensive.”

“Hospitals cannot erase this issue by trying to provide a pre-determined conclusion,” the MNA added. “We are currently unable to release certain numbers or other diagnostic information, but we promise that we will be transparent about our findings when we have finished reviewing the information collected.

“Completing this step-by-step process is important to providing the support that Newton Wellesley nurses deserve.”
