Kansas City, Missouri officials announced the opening date of the new Kansas City International Airport terminal at a ceremony Monday afternoon. Airport officials and Mayor Quinton Lucas will make the announcement at 4 p.m. at the new terminal. “We are very pleased to announce that the airport terminal is now on schedule and on budget,” Lucas said in an announcement Monday. A full slate of flights to and from Kansas City is scheduled for Tuesday.Construction on the new airport terminal began in March 2019. The $1.5 billion terminal will have 40 gates, In the future, it can be expanded to a maximum of 50 gates.The new terminal will have 6,200 parking spaces, enhancing the traveler experience inside.KMBC has opened the interior of the nearly completed project. Vantage Airport Group, selected to handle the airport concession, said it will have 50 different restaurants, shopping in the new terminal, and 80% of the concession options are local. The airport itself is divided into two independent concourses, with a large bridge connecting the two sides of it.Two different levels divide arrivals and departures.The new terminal also has an airport’s first information desk, meeting and meditation rooms available for rent.Within the terminal, passengers check in at one of 16 security checkpoints.Airport officials will be more comfortable than the current check-in process. also said to be faster.

The new terminal will officially open on February 28, 2023. A full slate of flights to and from Kansas City is scheduled for Tuesday when it opens.

KMBC got the chance to take a look inside the nearly completed project.
Vantage Airport Group, which has been selected to handle the airport concession, says the new terminal will have 50 different restaurants and shops. 80% of the concession options are offered by locally based companies.
The airport itself is divided into two separate concourses with a large bridge connecting the two sides. Two different levels separate Arrivals and Departures.
The new terminal also features an airport’s first information desk, meeting rooms available for rent, and a meditation room.
