No Man’s Sky World Part 1 update sees surge in player numbers


According to Steam ChartsNo Man’s Sky had a 24-hour peak of 48,499 logged-in players on Steam, the most since August 2019, when a player surge saw 61,535 Steam users start playing at the same time.

It also helps that the Worlds Part 1 update is free for all players, so many longtime fans are likely logging back in to see what changes have been made since the game’s heyday.

No Man’s Sky is the perfect game for my anxiety disorder

Sometimes you just want to explore space and enjoy the atmosphere.

But it also shows that No Man’s Sky is doing very well as it approaches its eighth anniversary next month. With this in mind, not knowing when Light No Fire will be released isn’t such a bad thing, and it seems Hello Games fans are more than happy to pass the time with No Man’s Sky while they wait.


When No Man’s Sky launched in 2016, it would have been hard to imagine it reaching this status. At the time, it was mired in controversy, with players criticizing it for missing promised features. It also received mixed reviews from critics who felt it fell short of the epic space adventure promised in the promotional materials. But in perhaps the industry’s greatest comeback, Hello Games has once again won favor with a slew of free updates that, as you can see, continue to this day.
