Research from King’s College and Queen Mary University in London shows that omega fatty acids protect women from Alzheimer’s disease and reveal why more women are diagnosed.

Research published in Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia: Journal of the Alzheimer’s Disease Association, Women with Alzheimer’s disease have found to have fewer unsaturated fats, particularly healthy fats such as omega fatty acids, compared to women without Alzheimer’s disease.

According to a press release, the researchers analyzed brain inflammation and damage in plasma samples from 841 Alzheimer’s disease patients.

“Silent link” to Alzheimer’s disease found in human brain tissue research

Using mass spectrometry, researchers sorted 700 groups of lipid molecules found in the blood.

“Saturated lipids are generally considered “unhealthy” or “bad” lipids, but sometimes unsaturated lipids containing omega fatty acids are generally considered considered “health”“The scientists pointed out in the release.

They found a sudden increase in lipids with “unhealthy” saturated lipids in female Alzheimer’s disease patients.

“Lipids with omega fatty acids were the most reduced in the Alzheimer’s disease layer,” the study states.

This study shows the link between Alzheimer’s disease Additionally, further research and clinical trials are required to confirm the link, but fatty acids are required.

The first author of the study, Dr. Asgar Letlin Cancer School & Pharmaceutical Sciences said scientists are aware that Alzheimer’s disease is more common in women.

“While this still warrants further research, we were able to detect biological differences in lipids between genders in large cohorts and demonstrate the importance of lipids containing omega in blood that have not been previously performed.”

He added, “The results are very pronounced and now we are seeing how this change occurs in women.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about two-thirds of the 7 million Americans with Alzheimer’s disease are women.

Approximately 4.2 million women I have an illness over the age of 65.

“Our research suggests that women need to ensure that they are taking omega fatty acids during their diet — through fatty fish or supplements,” said Dr. Christina Legido Quigley, a reader of systems medicine.

Omega-3 fatty acids support brain health and can be found in such fish As salmonAccording to the CDC, chia and flaxseed, walnuts and supplements.

Dr. Julia Dudley, head of research at Alzheimer’s Research UK, said the study suggested that women with Alzheimer’s disease have lower levels of unsaturated fat compared to men, but further research is needed.

“This involves understanding the mechanisms behind this difference and finding out whether lifestyle changes. Includes meals You can have a role,” Dudley said.

She added that understanding how Alzheimer’s disease works in women than men can help doctors become more specific with future treatments. Health advice.

“Understanding how women’s illnesses work can help doctors coordinate future treatments and health advice. Alzheimer’s Disease Research UK is proud to fund this job that brings us a step closer to treatment.”
