LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Less than a week later, the Mirage is officially closing its doors to make way for the new Hard Rock Las Vegas.

“It’s sad. I feel like it’s always been here. It’s a landmark,” said William De Leon, who was visiting from Colorado.

“It’s a great casino. I’m sad to see it go, but I’m happy to be here,” said Alex Guevara, also visiting from Colorado.

Thousands of new and returning customers are trying their luck at the casino one last time this weekend before it closes for good on July 17th.

Before the official closure, players have the chance to win more than $1.6 million, including about $1.2 million in slot machine prizes and $400,000 in table game prizes, according to the casino.

“You’re going to have people say, ‘Oh my gosh, you’ve got your player card out yet?'” Guevara said.

“There are some teams that are struggling, so let’s see if we can win something.” Miriam Perez visited from California.

In MayCasino officials announced the casino will close on July 17, 2024 as workers transform the property into the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Guitar Hotel Las Vegas.

“We’d like to thank the Las Vegas community and our team members for welcoming Hard Rock back after enjoying 34 years at the Mirage,” said Jim Allen, chairman of Hard Rock International. “We also want to thank our labor unions, community leaders, local and state government organizations and gaming commissions for their support and fair negotiations over the past year. We also want to thank MGM for assisting us with the transition.”

Guests with room reservations or show tickets for after July 14, 2024 will be automatically canceled and refunded. “I love everything about the Mirage. The fountain that’s here is so beautiful, so I’m very sad to see it go,” de Leon said.

“I love The Beatles so every time I see it I think, ‘Oh my God,’ and if it were to close, it would be like that’s been taken away from me,” Perez said.
